Trying to buy a GranTurismo is frustrating

I had planned a trip down to Sheffield tomorrow to look at two GranTurismo S MC shifts and they both sold today! I am very fed up and frustrated.
I am looking for a Rosso Mondiale or possibly white MC shift with the carbon aero kit, handling package and Neptune alloys in the £50k-£60k price range so if anybody is aware of one for sale I would appreciate a heads up.
I am a cash buyer so I would consider private or trade.

I saw your thread and guessed that you had bought one of them, which one did you buy?
If it wasn't for the fact that it is a 250 mile drive and I had my daughters 18th birthday meal, I would also have been there today.
I hope that you enjoy the car. :)

I had my heart set on white with the carbon bits so was going to Sheffield for that car. But as the red one was literally a mile away I figured I'd check that one out as well, so glad I did. The white was stunning but the red just felt that little bit special - more sense of occasion. So that's the one I went for. Pictures just don't do it justice.

I've been checking ads literally 5 times a day for the last 3 months and have email alerts set-up for the MC Shift on Autotrader, Piston Heads and Ebay, so I reckon I've got a good feel for what sells and what doesn't. Without a shadow of doubt a white MC Shift sells quickest, but you'll pay a premium for it. That white one in Sheffield was for sale for just 3 days. The red one I bought has been for sale for a month so I had my reservations about buying it as it might not be as easy to sell as a white, but then I saw it and just have to have it. The blacks and greys seem to stick around for quite a while, unless they have very low milage.

Just stick with it mate, the right car will come along. And perhaps go view a couple with different colour combinations even if you think it's not what you want, don't judge a car by the pics online. The GT isn't a very photogenic car IMO and looks so much better in the flesh.

Bowker Maserati have a white MC Shift with carbon bits for sale (no cills though) but with slightly high milage @ 29k. A chap from there is a member on here.

At £61k it's a little over priced I feel for a car with that milage but there may be some room for negotiation...

I have seen Bowkers car and it is very nice but the mileage is a little high for the price and I think that your are correct about the colour.
I originally had my heart set on a black car but I saw a (sold) white car in Glasgow and a red sport (too expensive) at JCT600, both looked superb and I have been looking at both colours but I am more and more convinced that Rosso Mondiale is the way to go.
Hopefully another red car of similar spec will turn up soon.
I look forward to hearing how you get on with your car. :)

So no need to tell me the spec on the other thread...I know now...Very jealous that red is stunning....Congratulations..

That red with black neptunes looks stunning. Congratulations Conrad.

Wowbagger something will come along soon. A few whites come and go I think. Red is much rarer but maybe harder to sell as per Conrads advice.

rub it in why don't you:saifi3:

I did genuinely feel bad when I posted!

Rags is right though, white will definitely be an easier sell. The sales guy where I bought the red was a nice guy but he knew I was looking at the white as well so was giving me the whole "White cars are just a phase, their residual might not be as guaranteed as other colours" speech, but I'm not buying into that. I bought a new BMW 3 Series Coupe M Sport back in 2009 when white just started to become fashionable and I was a tad wary back then in case in a couple years later nobody would want it. 5 years have passed and white is still a massive pull.

In the end the end my heart over ruled my head and opted for the red.

not sure I would class white as a fad colour in any case, always has been, and will be around.......when you have done all the essential head checking the heart will always win in anything like a near tied position in any decision or there will be regrets in the future........we need to feed the inner chimp! look forward to pics

I bought a white MK II TT in 2007 and all my mates thought I was mad ( until they seen it), white cars were rarer than hens teeth back then.I must have started the trend

Red is a glorious colour for the GT, white too. The car seems to wear most colours well. There's a burgundy which I was really unsure about until I saw it in the flesh, here: http://www.jardinemotors.co.uk/maserati/used-cars/33935/maserati-granturismo/ Looks absolute amazing. My view is buy what *you* like and don't worry too much about resale values.

I was chatting to Nareman (Nuvola) yesterday at Brooklands. He's starting to see a small upturn in GTS prices. Mine's probably dropped around 7k in the two years and 13k miles since I bought it. Whilst they'll never be what you might call an investment, these cars do seem to hold their value relatively well.

Conrad - enjoy it!

Wowbagger - good luck!

They can be,if you buy right spec, privately at the right time.I bought mine privately, spent £800 on two rear tyres and a detail, owned it ten months, put 7k miles on it and sold it last month for a £4000 profit

Chin up Wowbagger.

I waited over a year to bag the right car at the right price! Well worth the wait...

Got to be quick to buy these sort of cars at this time of year. The alternative is to take your time and pick up something in the autumn/early winter for a bit less.

Thanks for all the advice and support.
I have driven about 650 miles over the last couple of days and have had a look at a couple of cars. I paid a very enjoyable visit to Richard Grace to look at his lovely 4200 Spyder and to Amari to look at a black GTS. I was planning on enjoying the Spyder over the summer until the ideal GTS came along.
I have now changed my mind again! If indecisiveness was an Olympic sport, I would be a gold medallist.
I liked the spyder a lot but decided that it is not really what I want, I loved the black GTS but have decided against that particular car mostly due to its age and mileage, although it does seem to be in very good condition.
So I am now looking for a black GTS MC shift in the £50K -£60K range with less than 20K miles, which should be a lot easier to find than a red one, I still love the red but the wife likes the black and it does look great when it is all polished up and shiny.
I am away on business until Sunday so I will start looking seriously once I get back. :)

I'm not convinced about white on a modern Maserati road car. Doesn't fit the brand values and image to my mind. For the sportiest of the range, red at a push, but we are talking about uber stylish GT cars here, not out and out racers. A little fashion restraint wouldn't be a bad idea.

I'm not against white per se (my Porsche turbo is white), but it has to fit the brand and the model.

A few years ago at a Lambo track test event I was sitting with the sales chap, going through the spec for a new order. The white paint option was an additional five figure sum. I asked why. He said it was because White was the most expensive colour of paint to produce. That's when I told him I owned a paint manufacturing business, that he was talking shxt. Needless to say he lost the sale there and then. Shame, it was a great car.
