Tyre pressure

Hi all,

I have a new set of Falken 452 tyres on my 3200GT, what pressure do you suggest I run them at?

Thanks
Ross

Interesting, this question has had 39 views and no replies......that's unusual!
The reason that I ask is that the Tyre Placard says 250Kpa, but the tyres were at 300Kpa when fitted and I'm not sure which to believe is best.
I thought I would ask for suggestions rather that spend the next couple of weeks testing different pressures.

Cheers

Yep, that's just what I was about to say.
Sorry Ross, first time I have seen post !

I try to use 32f 34r when touring/motorway and drop that to 28f 30r on track. Seems to work ok for me although there is certain to be a better setting!

And just to add cofussion, I thought the AC was 2.1 in the fronts , and 2.0 in the rears.

I guess this is why this was a slow starting thread. No one is that sure!

Higher pressures at the rear will tend to induce a little more oversteer. I am running 32 front and 30 at the rear and this has helped a little with traction on hard cornering.

Ross.......I would inflate them to recommended pressure.......take her for a spin, doing the usual things you do and if they feel ok stay with it.
Or play around with rears first.....up pressure slightly......same thing off for a spin !
Pressures will change slightly......warm roads (Aussie temps) type of driving.......Think Neil is a good person to advise on this one !

engine oil - no please spare us, not enough space on the web site!

can altering the relative tyre pressures front to rear really affect over or understeer? interesting, must try all of the suggested tyre pressures and see if any of them make any difference?

Well, if your on track, then these things are important as they are trying to make use of the smallest of margins, but in the real world, I think not.

Basically, the more you inflate your tyres, the less resistance or drag you have which will increase speed. Now this sounds fine but less resistance = less grip so its a fine balance.

Matt....I'll agree with you on that one.......everyday driving = leave the pressure @ recommended and keep them that way.
Hard driving = play around with pressures, up down untill you and only you are content.

Matt is spot on... The average driver out there cannot tell when they last checked their tyre pressures! For the average discerning driver, the factory pressures are an ideal compromise suitable for most situations. I am specifically trying to dial out a little of the oversteer and increase rear grip level during fast cornering. The 3200 breaks traction too easily and the traction control is a little too intrusive so cuts power to the rear wheels mid corner. Not the recipe for fast progress.

Hey, that's better, lots of good opinions and a bit of controversy too!
Thanks everyone

Manual has two mentions for pressure, original was 2.0 bar all round, then this was changed to 2.1 bar front, 2.0 bar to rear.
