Will be many recalls and improved models, like the 4.2 GT and then the 4.7
With regard to recalls, I think that Maserati have learnt a lot. I waited quite a while to get my GranTurismo but - touch wood - in nearly 2.5 years and 20,000 miles there have been no recalls on my car and the issues I have had with it are minor apart from one electrical related breakdown which was handled well (loan car) and I actually got to my destination and was able to get my car recovered from there.
The move from the 4.2 to the 4.7 should have happened at launch but you will always get issues like this with a small company like Maserati. I think that the 4.2 is a great car and a wonderful used buy but if I had test driven a 4.2 in late 07/early 08 then taken delivery in spring/summer 08 to find that the 4.7 MC was out in six months and the 4.7 auto in a year then I would have been upset. Strangely the facelifted GranTurismo does not bother me as some of the changes I like and some I do not and you cannot pick and mix!
I hope that the Ghibli works but, personally, I would wait a year or so.
