Good topic Chippiepilot, having done extensive works all round to both my 4200 and Gransport , i have been presently surprised how well these cars fair with underbody corrosion, both of mine are very good condition underneath , having seen many maserati's on ramps at various indies and main dealers they all seem to pretty good , but a nothing beats having a crisp clean underside protection ( tho like me i feel you have a bit of Maserati OCD creeping in ) great feeling when your driving your pride and joy knowing that every where is clean and protected sad innit:lol: as to what protection to use, i would ask a local body shop

Waxoil was recomended to me by Emblem, but just make sure you don't get it on the exhausts

Waxoil was also recommended to me after recent service.

He told me to get it done at height of summer - take it and leave it in their workshop for a few days. They will ensure it's 100% dry then paint it on. They will then leave it to drip on their floors so my drive does not get covered. He said the underside looked good but a good thick coating of waxoil would ensure it stays like this. He said most cars have 2 bolts per covering but the Italians use 20 - thus creating more bolts to rust!!!!

So that's in the diary for July.

Loz, I think it is becoming major OCD on my part - my main reason really is the winter we have just had and my intentions to go to Europe in the winter means lots of salt and grit on the roads and Id just like to give her that little bit of extra protection.
Looking at the options the Bilt Hamber product has been highly praised by practical Classics and does seem potentially less messier than the waxoyl, price wise both are not as expensive as I had envisioned , the real cost comes in terms of time spent applying I suspect though the end result wil be worth it.

Chippiepilot, on my last service Marios noted quite a bit of superficial rust on the sub-frames, will be getting it tidied up next month, so after last winter, its a good idea for all of us to get them up on a ramp and spend a few hours on them....vital to keep the old tin-worm at bay!

Agreed P - will be asking my local indie about either doing it for me or allowing me the ramp on a sat/Sun to do it. I guess it will be a fiddly and long job (if its me) , rubbing the rust off and cleaning as well as making sure the underside is completely dry.
