For Pinnar and Delaglio to say its no way a red, speaks volumes.

Come on Wales, even a man down they should do France.

Definite red, 2/3 Welshmen on Welsh tv said correct decision. Awful game, Alain Rolland (ref) is an Irishman with a French father.

You must be watching a different game to me Dicky! :)

Warburton is one of the cleanest players going, there was no malice in that takle what so ever and you could see he'd let him go mid takle! At this level, a game changing decision like that should not be taken on impulse. With technology the way it is, there is no way known that they should still be making key decisions like that without the TMO.

Wales deserve to win the entire tournament but was we saw in France in 2007, the finalist dont always play the best rugby to get there. Whoever wins tomorrow will go on to win.

In terms of the rest of the game, Hook left his boots at home and Jones....Jones lacks the confidence - why not go for the drop with 5 mins to go?

All in all I think that was one of the better games of the World cup this time around... **** shame & yes hew missed the momen for the final drop kick to goal that should have tipped the game; they just got pushed back in that final & amazing passage of play after that... Oh well Mother-in-law was half welsh .... Guess in terms of tenuous relatives I've got an Ausie sister-in-law sothat's the route for the next two games!

Can't agree with that Frank, it was a yellow card at best, 10 mins in the sin bin.... The rule book says you must put the player down in a controlled way but he was not in control to be able to, and fell himself. I wouldn't want to be tackled that hard myself but there was no mallice intended. My eldest boy is a master of the 'dump tackle' and makes it a personal challenge to get at least one in to every game.. this tends to single him out for some fairly agressive retaliation but he has only ever been sent off once for 10 minutes in hundreds of games for what in my and many others watching opinion was a reasonable tackle (only put the guy horizontal) but the fellow wriggled free and droppped.... therefore my lad got pinged because he was not in control! If today's tackle had been a deliberate spike (dropping him on his head) I'd have agreed but he went down on his shoulder and got straight back up!

I think the guy looked sparked out momentarily, the scuffle and then the french protestations all contributed. You can p'ss and moan about it, but nothing will change. I think its a crying shame for the likes of Shane Williamns. All the prep, all the hard work, it was all coming together....but at the end of the day, the refs decision is all part of the game and they have to play against that.

In any sport, I'm never too fussed about the result so long as there is a fair game and no dodgy decisions. It seems that rugby suffered one today, IMO, on what should have (and easily could have!) been one of the greates days for Welsh rugby in a very, very long time.

Indeed Woody what is done is done... At least Wales had the go for it spirit in this World Cup unlike England who when it came to it just didn't seem up for it!

The ref will have to support his decision in his match report; being a red card it will have to feature, be recorded and will result in a ban of two internationals (pretty sure that is the case at that level). I do think he will find it hard to justify when he sees the replays though.

They read out the rule on TV.......drop or force down.......red card....

P

Not sure it's that clear P. There are three related rulings, two of which are red card, but the third is discretionary.....

1. The player is lifted and FORCED to the ground. Penalty is red, but Warburton let go and the player fell to the ground.......

2. The lifted player is dropped to the ground from a height with no regard to the player's safety. Penalty is red, but was this sufficiently high and in letting go did Warburton display a regard towards the players safety? He certainly didn't display any intent to endanger.

3. The player is lifted with their head below horizontal and tackled to the ground. At a minimum a yellow card should be issued, with a red a possibility depending on the circumstances of the tackle.

The tackle in question required the consideration of all three rulings and as such it was ill-considered of the ref to make a snap judgement without taking advice, particularly given the world stage on which the game was being played.
