Got my car back from Dick Lovetts yesterday after having them fit a new clutch, along with release bearing and F1 sensor.
What a transformation to the whole driving experience!
After my hesitation to have it opened and replace the clutch, because of being mislead when I bought it re clutch wear reading/condition (which I shalt go into now), and being worried that the engagement issue must have been down to something else, it transpires that my clutch had actually done just under 44k miles. As 'motorway' miles, this is understandable.
Now driving it is the pleasure it always should have been, not a matter of gently 'driving around' the slow/slippy change.
And what a pleasure!
Everything else works perfectly and has in the 4 months I've had it, but having everything work perfectly all together makes me realise what a truly fantastic car this is I've bought!
It makes a big difference knowing the engine is connected to the wheels when you want/need it!
After leaving DL's yesterday I went for a bit of a drive. Got home several hours later, should have been 20 minutes. Reversed on the drive. Went back off again
I did go and see a friend too who is having DMS out next week to fettle his Gallardo and E63 AMG (he's got a lot of toys!) and he suggested I have mine done. Before I opened my mouth, he was ringing them and getting me a price. Actually works out really cheap 'at the same time', but I recon the 4200/gs has enough, especially the instant way it is delivered. The main improvement I think would be to more rapid gear changes. (Anyone coming to Llandow with a FD module thingy?)
Anyway, I'm loving this car. I know there are 'better cars' in some aspects, but as a package, nothing much compares. Every journey is such an occasion. Even nipping my wife into Bath this afternoon for an emergency dental visit, I had the windows down a bit listening to those Larini's reflecting off the high dry-stone walls with a smile on my face. (She wasn't smiling, but that was nothing to do with the car!)
I'd also like to say how exceptional I find the service at Dick Lovetts. The service manager, Paul Cottrell and his team couldn't be more 'top drawer' professional. Hats off to them.
Whilst I was there I had a sit in the matt black MC Stradale. I think the interior is the most handsome I've seen, and matches the exterior perfectly. JC really is a monumental tw*t
