My next door neighbour always has a variety of special Mercs that he brings home , he works for Mercedes special ops here in MK , he preps all the cars that go for testing /track use etc ,and ones that to be loaned out ot journalists that sort of thing , he has to drive them for so many miles usually 500- 1000 miles , nice job if you can get it , from the horses mouth he says , that altho great performers they are mind numbingly boring , even when i drive past his house in the GS he will always wave me down just for the 2 mile jolly, opening the bonnet he just admires the picture , instead of a black plastic innert cover , personally i think he's in the right job but for the wrong company , Urby dont go there , you be better off going concours classic old merc , much more exciting

If you are considering the SLS, then why not consider also the CLK Black Series and the SL 63. Less 'in yer face' than the SLS, but similar in most other respects. And currently within budget.

Or stretch the budget to an 8C?

<broken record>
Interesting to see the GT-S marked as 'good value' - it lacks value IMHO when compared to its predecessor the GranSport. A leggy 3 year old GT-S costs the same as a GT-R (and let's not debate styling or heritage here, as we all prefer Masers - just value).
</broken record>

GTS is not great value compared with Gransport if considering just performance but even I have to concede that it is a newer and more refined car

Give you an idea how big the 599 appears

[Ferrari 599 sub £100,000 by the time I make my mind up. I thought this looks a bit more grown up and less flashy than a 430 (Marcos)] ................

View attachment 8069 think again Urby

regards loz

See I just don't like it...The chap behind it is better looking than the car.......

This is my current car crisis..........what would suit Urby when he moves on from Gransport

The choice is less than you may expect

Ferrari 430 GTB Definately not in red but perhaps black.........would I look a plonker at my age?????

Ferrari 599 sub £100,000 by the time I make my mind up. I thought this looks a bit more grown up and less flashy than a 430

Ferrari Scaglietti probably siuts my years the best but being a 4 seater Ferrari has a long way to fall in price

Ferrari 575 with handling pack. I know the 550 is the better car but is getting a bit old. Besides I want to keep to F1

Maserati Granturismo S. Probably the best value car but does not excite me as much as it should and really a common siight in London.

Maserati QP does not excite me but I appreciate it is a very good car

Mercedes SLS like the 599 I reckon will be sub £100,000 in a year or so

I don't really love Aston Martin and I really well and truly don't like Porsche or BMW

Quite a range there Urby, both in style and price..

Regarding the 430 - It's the young folk that look like plonkers, treating a proper car as a play thing. Someone like yourself with the benefit of experience would suite it just fine, and lend it the respect it deserves.

Regarding the 599 - Hmmmm, a lot of money for what isn't the prettiest of cars (IMO) though I accept it's certainly potent.

Regarding the Scaglietti - Also not exactly a looker (though I must admit it's ugly duckling styling is growing on me), but there is probably a deal out there that would make it a comparatively good financial prospect. Classic GT - Heaouge engine at the front, four seats in the middle, pretty much every other car behind. :D

Regarding the 575 - This is probably the astute financial route. Set to become an appreciating asset and certainly a pretty thing to behold.

Regarding the GT-S - Money no object this would be my choice. I accept that it doesn't really know what it is, it's too big, heavy and under powered, and the car you have is equally capable (and in many ways a purer Trident), but it is a Trident, and looks a million dollars.

Regarding the QP - THE best looking Trident on the road today, but I'm not sure it's what you need or want?

Regarding the Mercedes - Well the less said about that one the better. I'd rather have herpes.

Regarding the Astons - Worth a look? Certainly pretty and a classic English GT, though it'd have to be the DBS.

So where would I put my imaginary wonga?.....

Either the 575 or the GT-S, but once I've matured a little more it'd be the 430, and a scud at that! :D

Forget the merc!!
This is actually quite hard, i know what id buy if it was for me....
It be the 599!!

Its still 100k so assuming price was not an issue then id be in one as its a car thats still in production, most of the others have been replaced.....

The 612 will suit you though, its more of a tourer so itll be more comfortable.....

I think for us 'mere mortal' drivers, it'd be impossible to extract the extra performance from the 599 over the 612. In which case the 612 comes in much cheaper, has extra practicaility and has aged extremely well... A real future classic as so rare, so distinctive and so capable. Not sure which I would have of the two.

Vulgar as it sounds, what's your budget Urby? If enough for whatever you fancy, I know I was bound to mention it but the Aston DBS is considered by many to be the best GT in the world. 510bhp of manageable power, carbon brakes and annual 10k servicing. If I had 100k, it'd be amongst my choices, though a 599 and 612 would be hard to ignore... If you can afford £100k car then I probably wouldn''t look at a 575 as the 599 is a more modern car. Think the 575 is possibly better looking though!

There is always the hooligan Nissan, all you need is to wear a tea cosy on your head and you would blend right in.

Urby,

Ferrari 612 for me everytime, quite rare good investment, however if you don't like the DBS maybe a Classic DB6 would be a another good investment, both gents cars......enjoy the hunting.....
