What, no Maseratis in Italy?!

I was on holiday last week and spent three days in Italy (Sicily, Naples to Pompei, then Rome). I didn't see any Maseratis, at all!

I only saw two Ferraris (within two minutes of each other in Central Rome) - a head-turning red Testarossa and a more discreet black 599, which blended in with the traffic.

The narrow streets, plethora of scooters and the horn-blowing driving 'approach', all perhaps played a part in the dearth of exotica.
I must admit to being a little disappointed. Perhaps I would have had more joy further north, nearer some of the Alpine passes.

Has anyone had any better luck in Maser spotting in Italy ?

I have an Italian friend who told me that people do not drive Maserati/Ferrari etc in public that often in Italy for fear of being kidnapped......There are plenty of toe rags willing to relieve you of you car and money.............They do flaunt their wealth......

Ive heard that Andy , when i was there saw several around Modena obviously , , but general very scarce , a lot more scarce than UK , but in Portofino, 10 mins after checking into the the hotel room , admiring the room and looking over the balcony happened to see a silver Gransport same as mine waiting at the pedestian lights 3 floors below, for one awful god dammn minute i thought mine was getting stolen , lump in the throat time untill it pulled away quiet as a mouse , big relief , mine could never have been that quiet
Great holl tho

Yup, Sunday cars....and the further south you go the more likely you are to be engaged in an incident commensurate with your apparent wealth........

I heard that too. They follow you home then rob, kidnap or worse.

On another note I have been to Italy many times through the 90's and 00's and have never seen a GTV, plenty of 156 and 147 etc but never a GTV, very odd I thought at the time.

Back in 2000 when we went to Lake Garda I had a GTV V6 and saw a red one with Auto Delta quad exhaust and that made me want that exhaust so much......and even today thinking of getting one...But that was the only GTV I've seen when over there.
