Hi everyone,

Lovely sunny day so thought nothing in putting my windows down!

Unfortunately my front passenger side window will now not go back up! I can hear a click when using the switch on both the oassenger and drivers side door. But the window will only go down by a cm or so and not go up.

Does anyone know how to get the window up easily just so I can secure the car?

Thanks guys, happy Monday!

I have read a number of cases on here of the regulators etc failing, is the glass sticking up enough to grab hold and pull ?
If it is, that would be the first thing I would try, pull the glass whilst activating the switch.

BUT - I have no idea if this would actually help, it’s just what I would try.

That definitely sounds like a failed regulator. Mine did similar but luckily stuck in the up position, so I have no advice beyond Scaf's suggestion, which sounds worth a try. I think @Alan Surrey replaced his regulator himself so he may have some good advice.

Yep, the cable has gone in the reg, its a new one. Don't buy the cheap ones off Ebay from Germany, utter garbage.

Thanks for the replies, yes I've tried pulling it up whilst using the switch but seems very stiff and don't really want to use any more force.

Yes I've just read about the regulator so seems like the most possible cause, doesn't help with locking the car tonight though!

Conaero do you have a part number at all?

Many thanks

The drivers side window in my GT was working very erratically a few weeks ago. Sometimes coming down very slowly. Then it would take an age moving up, and on occasions not go back up unless I tuned the ignition on and off.

It's now pretty much stopped working all together and I can't hear the motor or clicks when pressing the switch. If I turn the key off and on again I can sometimes get the window to drop down and up again when shutting the door.

Is this more than likely a broken window regulator? And if so, where's the best place to purchase one?

You need to take the door card off and see if the regulator is intact or if the angel hair cables have jumped off the reel and bound up the mechanism.

If you cant hear the motor trying at all it sounds more like your motor has gone as the magnets in the motor body fracture and break off. Check the fuse first incase thats blown and hence the motor isnt even trying any more.

If the fuse is intact and nothing obvious wrong with the regulator the motor is held in by 3 bolts. Take the motor off and try the window buton and see if its turning slowly when not under load from the window. If it doesnt turn or its really slow then your motor has gone.

The window motor is the same as an alfa 159 motor which fits with a slight modification. Two bolts hold the motor body in place. Undo those bolts on the alfa part and pull the case off. It takes some force as the magnets are holding it in place and will fight you. Rotate the body 180 degrees and the wiring connector will now be on the correct side for the GT.

If you want to confirm your existing motor is at fault then take the two bolts out and pull the outer case off and you may well find chunks of magnet fall out or are floating around in the body of the motor.

I think i still have some pictures of the alfa part taken apart and modified. They should be on the forum as well somewhere on a previous post of mine.

Regulator issue should be pretty obvious as soon as you take the door card off.

Cheers @spkennyuk. I suspect you are correct and it's motor that has gone because I can no longer hear it click. I've also heard an occasional sound like a screw is rolling around inside the door card.

Not sure how brave I'll be trying mess around with the regular in case I smash the window . I'll find your previous thread and get some inspiration, or just decide to pay for an overpriced OEM motor.

Here is the old post on the motors. Post 34 onwards has the pictures.

If you look at the alfa part on the green foot stool once its apart then you can see some black dots which are small pieces of broken magnets from inside the motor body housing.

Its also four screws to take the motor apart not two as i mentioned on the previous post.

If you do decide to tackle the job yourself then put a few strips of duct tape over the top of the door and attach to the glass on both sides of the door. The window wont drop then and you can always wedge a piece of wood under the glass once you have the door card off.
