Engine no is pre variator modification (144357) so you’d need to check that first. Only 3 owners and a pretty good MOT history (expires this week).
Thanks Richard I didn’t know you could get the engine numbers from reg, I was going to check that. It’s something inevitable as I understand if not already done so I will see if there is any history and if not listen out for the signs and budget / dismiss accordingly.
Shame you don’t have any QPs in stock, this is going to share 50% of my daily driving duties with a Volvo and I can’t justify a Granturismo for that. Did have a good mull over the white Gransport however…but that deserves a more cherished life I think!

Hi All
I’ve been considering a QP for a while, recent life events have made think I should stop procrastinating and I’ve sold my sensible 535d with the aim of finding something more interesting to drive regularly.
I’m going to try to view the below car, does anyone know it? It has full dealer history except the most recent one at Autoshield which I understand is a good thing (where Richard Grace would get pre purchase inspections done?).
Any tips for my viewing welcome, would I be able to see enough of the subframe etc without a ramp?http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202310062733043
Looks nice!

Yes a Gransport isn’t really a daily car nowadays. I don’t buy QP S’s just because it’s so unbelievably difficult to find good ones and it’s such a slim window of variator upgrades, ‘59 onwards to 2011. It could well have had it done at Maserati, you’ll need to initially ask the dealer for proof, and call those dealers who’ve serviced if not. If it is possible to find an exceptional car at <£18k I would suggest that is is insane vfm as they are lovely cars.

Can you not check via the oil filler? I thought the upgraded ones looks more like clock springs or something?

The cam caps are what is upgraded and the variators replaced. There are many shortcuts I’m led to believe so receipt from a reputable company is the only proof that will suffice for me.

Thanks to you all for the help today, I went to see the car but unfortunately despite driving very well there were a few too many issues for me, it was a car that’s been stood for a while and it had numerous issues I’d not want to put my time and money into resolving. So still on the hunt!

My QP V variators were done last year at considerable cost :(, but it is a Maserati :) and I do have some pretty invoices :). I had the full fat remedy which Dicky described, as there doesn't seem much point in trying a quick fix that may not work. It's best to talk to a reputable specialist if there's any concern about a particular car.

Can i ask what issues? I almost went to view that one. Ended up buying another in the end. It's amazing how many car dealers claim their car to be in "immaculate condition" but closer inspection suggests not!

Text says it has BOSE sound system, but pics suggest not (which is a good thing as you can add CarPlay).

And you should know! I thought there was a variator change as well as the cam cap mod but I have been wrong more times than right :)

I believe the argument is if you do the non returns early before it suffers from any rattle then the variators etc. should be good and not need to be changed.

Subframe mostly, boot opening also not working, tyres looked old and worn edges, door locking mech. could be rescued and I don’t want to bash the seller he was pleasant an honest and open to a deal but I was looking for something a bit more fit and ready.

Now considering if its worth upping the budget for the the “Jay-Emm” sport Gts :p
