Longer clip of my last trip to the ring.
I had just sold my Elise, but not taken delivery of the Maser so was toy-car-less!
No matter, joined 'Team Escort', local family to me who own a BDA rally escort, which we towed to the Ring along with others who made up the Nurberg Challenge 2011!

Nice one Mike, although that old Escort looked a bit too high off the ground for asphalt!

I was thinking that looked like a gravel set-up.

You are both correct!
The first lap they got on the ring okay, the second lap they would not allow on until they removed the driving lamps and taped over the bonnet pins.
He has had it nearly 30 years, and did a lovely demonstration of drifting on the lower gravel car park!

When I took the spyder, the first lap was ok after I did a full fat departure from the barrier to the cones. However, when we got back to the car park we were ambushed by 4 guys in Guantanamo Bay romper suits who insisted on a noise check. The limit is 100db and we topped out at 99.6 at 3500rpm. They then told us to take it easy and keep the noise down. I kind of told them to go forth and multiply as I was within their noise limit. I'm told they didn't appreciate my full fat departure for the second lap! The bounce-back going through the trees was awesome! I will be over the limit now with the valves open but probably not with the valves shut.

Which exhaust config were you runing then, Ben? I hit around 100db, at least according to my (almost certainly unreliable) iPad db app measured at 20" from the right-hand exhaust and around 5k rpm. Hopelessly unscientific, I know.

I was on Larini sports cats, standard centre box and straight through rears. In my experience the I-phone noise app is pretty cr4p. The mic seems to max out at high volume and everything reads around 100db.

Thanks Benny. It would be interesting to get an accurate reading sometime if anyone has an proper db meter.

not so easy to get a wheel off the ground on one of these

Was a pretty excellent track car though, sadly now in some one else's garage!

Despite the length of the track how come these nutters drive around in little groups, seems to be just asking for trouble. Are a lot of the spins caused by cars dropping a load of oil on the track?

I don't think so. IMO, it's idiots running out of talent whilst trying to prove just how fast they are. It's very easy to screw up on there, so it's better to have fun without going mad.
