Think you are being a bit harsh on the italian marques,
there are offers around, not saying they are giving parts away,
but they are trying to help...

Direction from on high I have been told P...they are encouraging discounting, especially for the older models...

I agree there seems to be some cost on this one, I don't know as I am not a member,
it is free if you buy a car from them, but it sounds like you can also join the scheme...

Any discount for parts for older and classic cars is a welcome change, it should not have strings attached though, like "when fitted by us".

I know that Dick Lovett will offer discount if you talk direct to them.....They were cheaper on a clutch than some specialist...Good see..

Ditto Andy...several of the MDS go out of their way to be competitive.... plus....Lovetts are at the head of that group

I did try Dicky for my air scoop, he was competitive, but I managed to twist a dealers arm a bit and got an excellent price, well in comparison for a piece of plastic.

Gents - has anyone had any issues with squeaking once they have installed these?

As you know I had new discs and pads all round last year. I had a lot of squeaking so the indie adjusted the handbrake. This worked for a while - but - it comes back especially when reversing.

The indie thought it was due to the brake pads swelling slightly when wet, coupled with corrosion. I'm not sure this is the issue and wondered if anyone else has experienced this?

Cheers

Sounds as though the handbrake mechanism is not fully releasing, can't see it being the discs, or pads, unless you have a sticking caliper.

I have had the same (and still have it to some extent), and squeeking while reversing is almost definitely the handbrake shoes

The indie thought it may be the handbrake shoes - these were brand new last January and original parts (I didnt know of Belfast Brakes back then!!)

It only seems to happen when its been sitting for a few hours and normally more when wet. The indie released the handbrake to allow more clearance and it sorted it for a while - seems to be back now!

I would be looking at greasing up the mechanism, checking the cable for broken, or split cover, which will allow moisture in and then rust in side the cable and possibly any springs that may pull the brake shoes back. I know that some manufacturers recommend a short amount of travel with the handbrake on to clean up handbrake shoes and braking surface, this sometimes works, only slow travel mind.

Being 99% sure the 550 Maranello front brake disks would fit as direct replacements to my Maserati Coupé, I just needed to check the off-set (inside of disk bell housing to inboard disk face) as it was the only measurement I still had in question.

Well I can confirm I have a match. Since the weather was kinder this afternoon I removed one of my front 4200 disks and using a digital vernier caliper checked, checked and double checked again, and the off-set is the same as my old 4200 disk (albeit for a few microns which is to be expected in manufacturing tolerances and accuracy of digital caliper). I have now fitted the Brembo 550 disk and installed new Mintex pads (ran out of time to do both sides so the other will follow tomorrow). A few photos will follow at some point of the shiny new disk in situ. Disk fit was not an issue, the only part of the job that was a bit of a pain was removing the old brake pads which had obviously been installed via the use of a hammer by some neanderthal!

For comparison only, disks dimensions I noted were:

Mas 4200, Ferrari 550, Diff
Centre mount hole 66.95, 66.95, 0
Disk thickness 31.95, 31.97, 0.02
Wheel bolt holes 14.53, 14.53, 0
Disk mount bolt holes 8.75, 8.73, 0.02
Bell mounting flange thickness 7.10, 7.07, 0.03
off-set 53.69, 53.70, 0.01

Visual difference is that my old 4200 disk has some grey paint around the bell housing, whereas the 550 disk does not – for me no real issue.

I'm happy to fit these disks to my Maserati, they are made by Brembo for Ferrari for the 550 as OEM equipment, a car that has superior power and speed to a 4200 coup̩ and which is slightly heavier than a 4200 Рso here's my disclaimer, I'm not recommending them, but for my own personal use I now have 100% peace of mind.

I do have an extra spare set of brand new boxed Brembo 550 Maranello front disks going cheap if anyone wants them? 160.00 for the pair if anyone is interested, please contact me (collection only though- Northampton).

I have taken delivery of a pair of rear Brembo 550 Maranello disks and believe these might be the same as 4200 rears, but will get time again in a few weeks to check before I'm confident to fit them to my car.

Cheers
James

NOTE - Discs now provisionally sold, thanks for all the enquiries.

Has anyone tried the 550 front discs with the FD brake lines? Due to the fact that the lines push the system, maybe the 0.02 mm difference could cause some trouble.

I seem to remember when Maserati found out we were all fitting F550 brakes to our coupes, there was magically no stock left. Has this changed?
