so its like this im in a situation where I'm selling my house and haven't got to buy another.. this means money to spend so as I love Italian sports cars and never thought I could afford one hear I am. so ive set a budget for a 4200 or a gs. so for the budget I have I think im best going for a 4200. as its probably not a good idea going for the cheapest gs I can find but going for a really good 4200 your opinions on this would be appreciated.my budget ive set for myself is a maximum of £25000

A 4200 for £25k would have to be an absolute stunner, the same money should get you into a reasonable GS.

The place in the New Forest, name escapes me, had a 4200 for £25k a while ago... it was pretty much concours and had 9000 miles on the clock... that's what I'd want for that money!

yes ive looked at a number of adds for gs my concern is. 25k is at the bottom end for a gs or should I not be concerned

You need to hold back £2k for a clutch in your war chest, other than that, they are pretty predictable.

Advise you on a slightly higher mileage well kept GS than a lower mileage 4200.....GS will hold its value you better and is the most evolved/developed model

25k will get you a good GS..Not a lot of choice at this price these days but you will get one.....That would be my choice......

im totally not bothered about miles on the car I will eventually get as I will put so many more. as long as its been looked after
ive only managed to get out and see one car so far that was an 02 plate in st Albans low miles one owner but the body looked like it had done more and the deeler wasn't very helpful as I said my budget is a max of 25 k but will also look at cheaper cars if they tick the boxes

Hi nice position to be in.

Having had two 4200s and now on to my first GS this is my view only.

I would go for the best 4200. This is just my opinion but I find the GS is just too sports orientated and unless you are happy with a very firm ride in both normal and even harder in sports you will feel uncomfortable. I personally dont feel the GS is worth the extra if you want a good GT car.

But if its a sports car it fits that role well.

I intend to drive some long distance in my eventual purchase.so some comfort would be nice is the ride between the two that much difference ive only sat in a 4200 not driven and was a comfy enough seat I cant wait for the sail of my house to go through then I can start really looking and stop dreaming

Seats in both are comfy but the GS is more supportive round fast corners.

The comfort issue is due to spring rates and wheels a tyres...GS is running bigger wheels and skinner tyres so soak up less on the road...the GS also has more fragile wheels which are more prone to dents and cracks...given the state of roads it is a fear I have each time I hit a pot hole.

4200 is a little higher or slightly less taunt springs

Do like my GS btw.

The ride quality between the 4200 and GS is down to the GS having extremely low profile tyres, 19" instead of 18". The suspension is the same, even the springs are the same but the GS is slightly lower on the adjustable spring platforms, which you can also adjust on the 4200 down to the same GS height.
Age/mileage....well everyone has their own opinion. Personally I have an early car with extremely low mileage, that has not been a problem for me and being such low mileage has very little wear and no battle scars.

From 03 onwards the springs are identical between the 4200/GS Pete.

Yes but compressing them surely makes it stiffer as it has less rate of travel left?
