The guy who did my jag would give it a stab , anything is repairable but I suppose it comes down to the cost of the parts

6k sounds cheap but I can see that doubling in parts if you're unlucky

Easy route is to buy a used engine and just do a swap.
However, in my opinion, if you have the skills, go for a rebuild.
At least at the end the engine will be like new and it will probably cost less in parts than a used engine

A full rebuild would surely be £3, £4k max and if nothing else needs doing, you've got a decent car I would have thought

It is a good car Stuart, it's Ronans old one and if I had the space for it and time I would get it repaired and drive it.

Most likely spun a Conrod bearing. Without taking engine out or stripping in situ impossible to say. Been inundated with time wasters so far! :D

If you add in a new oil/water pump then £5k can be spent in parts alone. Have rebuilt an engine last year that only "needed" 1 piston, the other parts (valves, bearings, clutch etc) soon mount up. would be a nice car afterwards though.

It's a fine line.

Used 4200s start at £12k, this one is at £6 and if you know what you are doing you could fix this up but if you need to pay someone to do it... it will mount up to close to the price of a starter car with a working engine.
