4200 Project

It's a fine line.

Used 4200s start at £12k, this one is at £6 and if you know what you are doing you could fix this up but if you need to pay someone to do it... it will mount up to close to the price of a starter car with a working engine.

Hence why the ad say someone with the know how and time. A used engine is £3k labour is free. I really can't see a problem.

problem.... well not all of us have a decent set of spanners let alone the skills and knowledge to use them... me for one ;o)

I needed a mechanic to do 95% of the work on my MK1 Golf, and that's a very simple car.

Probably a nice and tempting project. But the biggest issue would be to get the steering collumn to the left side...

If your a mechanic with access to tools, ramps etc and parts at trade then it makes sense.

But for most of us including me it doesn't make sense!

Don't get me wrong I would love to complete a project like that.

There not bad to work on compared to a lot of the moderns but you do have to have your wits about you.
Would be a shame to see it go down the route of a breaker.
People pay more for old rusty Ford escorts.
With all the enthusiasm on here and being able to get advice from good Indies it needs doing.
Too far away for me otherwise I'd be on it.

Into the trade, beautiful car, beautiful combo with great spec. If I had it running well it would have sold at 11k in an instant. Shame but glad it is going to an enthusiast who will keep it on the road!
