4200 respray

So how much am I likely to be looking at, ball park.

There's some rust in the normal places (below the rear lights and leading edges of the rear arches), but nothing serious.

What do we think?

I would get two or three paint shops on personal recommendation then go down and have a look at their work. If they are all more or less the same and you like their work, pick the ones you get the best vibe from. You tend to get what you pay for with spray jobs so don't always go for the cheapest.

Depends how far you want to take it C, you can get localised repairs and a quick blow over plus clear coat just masking up the trims for about £1,500 or you can get it de-trimmed and fully sorted for double that or you could go bare metal respray (with you doing much of the strip out and rebuild) for about £7 k these days, the choice as ever is yours...

I'm looking at the same, quite annoying really, things like the chrome boot lid lock trim fitted badly so it has cut into the paint and starting to rust.
Bottom line to do it properly the boot lid, rear bumper, rear wings, and complete roof (no blend point on rear wings) require repainting.
To do it properly, all glass out too.
I've been quoted £1,600 plus VAT from a very reputable bodyshop that does the bodywork for Italia Autosport Ferrari's.

Thats cheap Miles,I was quoted £400 plus vat just to replace my 3200 rear windscreen and that was with me supplying the glass!

If I was having that much of my car painted then I'd have the entire car resprayed. It would bug me to look at fresh paint on the rear and 'old' paint with its blemishes and wear everywhere else.

If that's the Italia Autosport in Meltham, then I would go with their painters. I've seen some of their paintwork and it is really lovely. The owner of IA is John Pogson (the guy who took Ryan out for one of the drives of his life in an F40), he's restoring an old Lancia and the paint is fantastic so if it's the same body shop, I'd go with them. I too would go for a whole body spray job. You can save a bundle by prepping most of the body yourself, it's not rocket science!

Apart from the blemishes on the rear, the paint is perfect, car has only done 14K miles from new.
I think they will all require the rear end repainting eventually due to poor assembly when new, especially the rear bumper under the lights.
I don't think mine has ever seen a salty winter, I know it has lived all its life in a garage, underneath is factory fresh even though 11 years old, all the plating on the suspension and bolts all still present, but under the lights etc. if you look closely is starting to corrode.

Yes it is, they use http://www.grangemoorcoachworks.co.uk/ although I found out indirectly then confirmed when they quoted me.
Regarding Italia Autosport I've used them to fit my larini exhaust, they are only 5 mins drive away from me.
Only problem with them for mechanical work is no SD2 equipment, so even though super convenient I'm hesitant to use them for servicing.

Cheers guys. Felice has his own body shop, so will be putting a price together for me. After a quick chat this afternoon, we agree that a complete job is the way to go, but I'll probably go for masking as opposed to full take apart. It'll make the car look lovely, easy resale and that puts me on the road for GT ownership in a couple of years :D

I'd strongly recommend glass out and trim off - just masking off can leave visible edges, making the paint job cheapen rather than improv the car. It'll cost a little more, but mean the whole job is that much better.

I recently had a respray on my Porsche 951 and decided not to go glass-out. Big mistake. Although the paintwork itself is perfectly good, the end result simply isn't satisfying. So now I'm thinking I'll have it done all over again, but to a deeper more expensive level. Pay properly once, not cheaply once and then properly!

Paint is the one area where cutting costs never pays off. The guy who paints my cars is top notch but he doesn't come cheap. He is based Watford way but knows his stuff, does a lot of work on Classic Ferraris for a well known dealer

I agree with that sentiment. I recently had the front and rear bumpers done on my 42, they took both off and totally stripped them down before spraying. The front is a ***** and takes most of a day to strip down properly, but the end result is just like new, well worth it..!!

Surely you can just get the bits that need doing sorted and not a full respray..?

I'm having my front bumper, wing mirror plate, a bit of bubbling on the front the window, and a very beep scratch on the back bumper sorted for £300 at a local paint shop...

It is cheap Andy, thought you were paying £300 for the wing mirror as i was about to say its expensive but reading that your getting the bumper done aswel is very well priced

Dem, got them to do the one wing mirror plate to see what their work was like and was very impressed...BMW use them as their body shop.....As you say a very good price so I will see next week and let you know....They are having the car on Saturday and should take around 4 days....Going to see if they can refurb the wheels as well and thinking of going gloss black to match the grill and black trims..We will see.

C - I've used a place near Colchester a few times which does a lot of Fezza, Masers, Bentleys, Lambos and some classic. Mostly it does normal cars and always seems to charge normal prices. But their guys are passionate and bloody good. I was recommended them by my local MD. Happy to ping you the details and you're more than welcome to scrutinize the bits they've done on mine.
