4200 respray

I'd strongly recommend glass out and trim off - just masking off can leave visible edges, making the paint job cheapen rather than improv the car. It'll cost a little more, but mean the whole job is that much better.

I recently had a respray on my Porsche 951 and decided not to go glass-out. Big mistake. Although the paintwork itself is perfectly good, the end result simply isn't satisfying. So now I'm thinking I'll have it done all over again, but to a deeper more expensive level. Pay properly once, not cheaply once and then properly!

Hmm. Interesting point. It needs a new windscreen for preference, and new side windows. I shall see what the war chest looks like next year.

Surely you can just get the bits that need doing sorted and not a full respray..?

I'm having my front bumper, wing mirror plate, a bit of bubbling on the front the window, and a very beep scratch on the back bumper sorted for £300 at a local paint shop...

Bits that need doing:
Leading edge of rear arches
Rust below rear lights
Boot edge
Peeling lacquer on NSR rear wing
peeling lacquer on bonnet
rust sport either side of rear screen.
Rear bumper

As far as I can tell, the only way to do that would be roof down to base of A-pillar, wings to sill cut lines boot, bumper.
That only leaves the front wings, bonnet and bumper.....

I'm looking at the same, quite annoying really, things like the chrome boot lid lock trim fitted badly so it has cut into the paint and starting to rust.
Bottom line to do it properly the boot lid, rear bumper, rear wings, and complete roof (no blend point on rear wings) require repainting.
To do it properly, all glass out too.
I've been quoted £1,600 plus VAT from a very reputable bodyshop that does the bodywork for Italia Autosport Ferrari's.

That is flipping cheap.

Dem, got them to do the one wing mirror plate to see what their work was like and was very impressed...BMW use them as their body shop.....As you say a very good price so I will see next week and let you know....They are having the car on Saturday and should take around 4 days....Going to see if they can refurb the wheels as well and thinking of going gloss black to match the grill and black trims..We will see.

Hi Andy

Could I have the details of this place please as you are not far from me - I need some work done on my Alfa and am currently collecting quotes.

Cheers!

What is quite annoying is that all these recommended bodyshops are no where near London/Herts.

Like I said, Felice has a proper body shop. I've see some of his restos, and wouldn't hesitate to use him (and almost certainly will)

That's only Chadwell Heath....

You could come to Yorkshire, God's Country, get a fantastic job done at my excellent body shop I use, stay in a nearby nice country hotel, or pub, have a brilliant 2, or 3 day break, go back home and still have a load of change..!!

That actually has a rather high level of appeal. Been too long since we've been up that neck of t'woods.

Yes, suprised me...People had said a front bumper respray would cost me £400 plus so when he said £200 I thought mabe the job wouldn't be up to scratch but then let him just do my wing mirror base plate and his work is brilliant.

Does he do wheel refurbs?

<quote>
Hi Chris
I do use a place that only does wheels , strips and powder coats , very very good job, abut £60 a wheel

If it's good enough for Feli, it's good enough for me (of course) YMMV

£200 for a front end re-spray..?? When I had mine done only a short while ago, I was quoted about £400 for the front and rear bumpers, one sill and hole under rear light cluster. However my body man had his head in his hands when it came time to pay, he said he had made an honest mistake, it took around 6 hours just to get the front off and stripped, then about another 4.5 hours to get the front back on, that's without the rear bumper, any paint, prep work, laquer, or waxing. so I bunged him another £50 cos he's a mate..!! Rear ends are easy..!!

Ever get the spray?

No. I'm still in two minds. I *want* a GT but I know it's going to be a couple more years until I can afford one. Am I ever going to get the money back on the spray? Nope. Would it be better to spend on the mechanicals? Possibly. Does it need one? Yes

Decisions decisions

Stop d!cking about and get it done! If you don't, the damage will be much worse by the time you sell it and buyers will walk away if it looks tatty. IMO, best to bite the bullet and get it into the best condition you can, that way it will be a lot easier to move on for a half decent price.
