Whilst I was at work today my van was side swiped by a Tesco lorry, the van was parked legally and I was working in a house nearby, luckily it happened next to a public park, and I have witnesses, I have reported it to police as a failure to stop, but I can't find anyway of contacting the relevant department at Tesco to get they're insurance details. Any advice please?

I’ve had some success with customer services. I watched a DPD van demolish a fence and had pictures. Rang customer services, sounded like they heard it a lot, and put me through.

Tesco customer services might pass you over to the haulier, think it’s XPO for chilled wagons, but can’t remember. DHL and Eddie Stobbart also had contracts depending on depots. It might be easier as per the advice above to let your insurance handle it.

Call a specialist automotive lawyer. I have used a guy called Phil Harmer at Stormcatcher Law previously. He will wake them up for you.

We are making progress, spent ages trying to contact correct dep at Tesco, eventually at about 8.30pm yesterday found a link to WhatsApp no, and after a short period chatting with a 'chat bot' who thought I wanted to chat about on line shopping, I was transferred to a human who expressed apologies and set the wheels in motion, today I was contacted by 'Sopp Sopp' who are apparently an accident management co, spoke to a very helpful girl who is contacting local repairers to get job booked in, I told her I needed a van of similar capacity to mine as a courtesy vehicle to which she instantly agreed, remains to be seen if they actually repair it or write it off due to age/ mileage, didn't want to go through my insurance as only had vehicle back 4 weeks after being repaired for an 'at fault' accident, hate to think what my premiums are going to be for the next few years

If they write it off they'll probably let you buy it off them , they don't want it , when they come up with a valuation find 3 similar vehicles for sale at dealers and send them in , they're supposed to put you back where you were pre crash, then you can negotiate buying the van back if it's just cosmetic .

Some years ago I was parked in a side street about a car and a half from a 90⁰ corner

Came back and a car was parked behind me touching my back bumper , I thought cheeky *******

A guy came out of a house and said, he did that , pointing to an asda van unloading down the street , I pulled my car forward , no damage , looked at the car behind me and the OSR wing and back light were caved in as he'd pushed it forward into mine

I walked down , a lad of about 20 driving it , I could tell he had no idea he'd just hit this car and dragged it up the street , the near side bar along the length of the body had a long blue scrape down it.

The irony was i'd applied for a part time driving job with asda a few weeks before but got declined even with my 25 years of experience driving vans yet this muppet was fine .

The van will be from the local tesco to the area so you could check in with the store manager if no joy with customer services.

Update. The van was written off as uneconomic to repair (2010 with 167000 miles) very generous offer from the accident management co (over twice the we buy any van price) and I'm keeping the van and will repair myself, but then today I get a letter from Tesco's lawyers wanting all details etc then they will authorise repairs (obviously not talking to each other!) I guess this will be for any other expenses as settlement agreed is purely for the value of the van, just have to work out what other expenses could be!

As Tesco say, every little bit helps ;o)

Glad to hear it worked out well.
