The maps are ****. Two options a) ignore the update b) update and use website version of google maps.

If you use the iTool wih any accessories I'd choose option a right now. I've lost the use of Bluetooth car radio on previous updates when I upgraded the day it came out

Yes and yes.

I like all the other improvements: Safari seems quicker, the whole OS seems more responsive on my two year old iPhone 4, but not enough to merit the hype. They could have called it iOS 5.1 in truth.

But the maps are indeed pants.

I agree with everything said in this review: LINK

You loose YouTube as well. Okay you can access the web version, like the web version of google maps, but it caused total meltdown for my 3 year old son he was so used to using YouTube for Thomas the Tank Engine clips!

Apple maps, what total garbage! The reduced level of detail is huge, it doesn't show any villages, and even Holmfirth, a postal town, does not exist!

Unfortunately this has turned out to be Lemon IOS6... very disappointing. a lot of the aviation software I use has thrown up problems after the update. Many third party providers are recommending against the "upgrade" until Apple get their sh!t together.

Apple now seem to be getting a bit arrogant; "We've made it, so everyone will buy it, regardless" is not the way forward.

So with IOS6 do you loose the ability to run Google maps and YouTube as an app?

Yup. Someone I know who develops apps for the medical industry says he tested them all on the various releases Apple provided to the developers and they all worked fine. Come the final release and none of them work. This isn't just the minor inconvenience of something like Angry Birds behaving differently, this is affecting doctors and their patients.

Apple need to step up to the mark. And I say that as a dyed-in-the-wool Apple user since 1991.

The YouTube app gets deleted and the Maps app is now hooked up to Apple and TomTom's own (sh1t) mapping. Actually I think the TomTom bit is okay, it's the poor content provided by Yelp which is disastrous. I quick look at my postcode and it lists businesses which closed years ago, and puts them in the wrong place anyway. Worse than useless.

The YouTube deletion is no worry. You can download YouTube's own app and Thomas the Tank Engine will be restored http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/youtube/id544007664?mt=8&ign-mpt=uo=2

Rumour has it Google will be releasing a similar maps app soon. For the moment you can simply go to maps.google.com which works okay.

As TT says, download the YouTube app. The maps will get an update. Personally I think the update's great. My 4s is miles quicker and I love the 3D maps for messing around on, maybe not that great for accuracy yet though.

I think the YouTube app is currently an iPhone app, the iPad app is to follow.

My own phone is still the 3G model of 5 years, and I was considering the iPhone 5, seeing I have skipped 3 models in between, not too sure now to be honest, my works phone a Galaxy SII is so good!

Not sure whether it's IOS 5/6 issue or networks but I've sent a few text messages on iMessage and SMS that haven't arrived both pre and post update. Annoying doesn't get near it, when folk don't get a reply, it could lose me business or end me up in the dog house with my wife!

I am getting on ok with it so far. Hopefully it corrects the bug on my 4S where it loses wifi and needs a factory setting restore to get going again.

Not sure about the iphone5 solely due to changed charger connector.

Calm down, yes, the new maps are pants, but its TomTom behind it so it will be the best, just give it some time.

As for YouTube, you simply have to download the App from the App Store, they just dont ship it installed as Apple has now direct competition with Google, so why would they.

The updates are subtle but is does run faster. Use it for a couple of days and you will notice the new icons appearing and styling changes.

I agree, its not a landmark update and yes, Apple do have to up their game, but I am sure we all know they are working on something big in the background....they did just loose their inspirational leader, it will take time to adjust.

With regards to the iPhone 5, other than the new larger screen, its now does not shatter when you drop it and performs remarkably well. This is from an Android forum, so you can see they had to swallow their pride:

Also the iPhone is the fastest smartphone on the market. OK some have quad cores and lots of numbers, but this harps back to the old days of Mac VS PC where the Mac always would outperform the PC in real life tests....

Again like OS6, its not a landmark phone but still the fastest, most stylish, easiest to use and durable phone out there.
