If its charging ok and its just the bearings you will be able to replace just those. All bearings have numbers on them. Any good independent motor factor should be able to supply or just do a Google search.

It's been stripped down, all the parts checked and to use the experts terminology, everything's mint!
So it'll be back to checking the other pulleys again.

Maybe the rebuild has solved the issue.

Here is the alternator expert I used. Last time I used him was more than 25 years ago so he's got a little experience!
SandC Electrical in Harlow. http://www.sandcelectrical.com
Yesterday evening Steve put it on a test bed and said nothing was wrong with it. After a conversation he said he'll strip it down in the morning and check all the components individually. This evening he explained all the components in detail and the situation of each of them. He'd also put it on 2 test beds under load to prove it.
If any of the components needed replacing he can find the alternatives through his extensive knowledge of Nippon Denso alternators and therefore avoid charging an arm and a leg.
I also showed my YouTube video of the noise to which he said its definetly not an alternator noise, perhaps I should of started here. He then said he'll share it with the mechanic that also works there. An hour later I got a call from him suggesting the secondary air pump.

Now that's what I call good service.

I did get charged a tenner for the strip down but it was worth it.

Sounds like great service and cheap too. It's reassuring to know that guys like these still exist.

Maybe add these guys to the recommendations and/or alternative parts threads as I'm sure others would benefit. Hope it all works out well, sounds like it will.

Progress perhaps. It could it be this.
It's a flexible coupling holding the secondary air pump to its bracket. You can see the other 2 in the bottom photo.
I need to find a new one now without buying a whole pump!!!!

Thanks Peter. Not quite the right size but it may mean I'll need to replace all 3, which shouldn't be an issue as long as the space is ok.

Klive, I have a 4200 engine in the garage, I'll go take a look in a mo for you, I am sure something can be made up if not.

Get some small tap washers from a plumbers merchant, simples.

Thinking back, my air pimp was metal not plastic but I'll check.

If it has to be flexible, that looks a bit like a flexible exhaust mounting, may be worth a look..??
