Yep all 3 sets I've done have been the same too. Not sure how MAF got his in without a little fettling.

I spent a lot of time cleaning the calipers up and really clearing the muck out of the pad guides. With tolerances this tight it makes a big difference.

Will try that next time, I know how anal you are so I might not have 2 weeks to do each caliper! :)

SM Caliper Clean How to:

1. Remove calipers from car
2. Wait for the missus to go out
3. Remove dirty plates from dishwasher
4. Put calipers in dishwasher on hot wash
5. Remove callipers from dishwasher and refit to car
6. Put dirty plates back in dishwasher
7. Shrug shoulders when the missus complains the cutlery tastes weird

A mate of mine plumbed his old dishwasher into his garage for that exact reason.
He had a new kitchen put in with fitted units and as there was nothing wrong with the dishwasher it's now a parts cleaner.
Genius.

Okay, I've been watching this thread a bit as I'm thinking of different pads, particularly if I take Myfanwy on track (Llandow, for instance). A lot of you mention EBC Yellow Stuff, but I'm rather scared of using ANYTHING they make after a bad experience... I had Red Stuff on my Saab for a while, and thought they were awesome pads, until... the friction compound just sheared off the plate one day. Needless to say, I'm never trusting Red Stuff again. Not only that, but my Saab specialist, Abbott Racing, told me that they've often seen EBC pads coat alloys in dust that you just can't shift from the alloys, even with a refurb.
I now have Mintex on the Saab, and they're great, but very very dusty.

So, having said what I did above, Yellow Stuff, Mintex, or something else?

Red stuff has a history of being total sh!te.

The have redone the compound but on my old 3200, on a dual carriage way, the air cooled the brakes, stamped on them at the next roundabout and just sailed straight over it.

Yellows seem to have a very good rep though.

Yes, the new compound Redstuff are much better but once bitten ... However all EBC seem to be very dusty.

I don't mind dust, so long as it doesn't effectively weld itself to the alloys! Just something tried and tested with bite and without fade! The lack of fade was one thing the redstuff excelled in, until they disintegrated!!!

Given the price of a cheapo dishwasher from AO, it's almost worth buying a new one. I have to say, though, caliper seals on a hot wash? Are we sure?

Even on max heat water is only going to be 100*...I am sure they get much hotter when pushing it on the roads.
