Broken Down

Well, Felice reported back to me this afternoon. There good news and bad news.

The bad news is that I have to pay about £40 on a one way train ticket to pick her up.
The good news is that there is nothing wrong with her!!!!

He plugged the diagnostics in when she came off the lorry, and she came up with mis firing on cylinders 1 & 3.
Which Felly said was odd to start with. He then took the coils off both front and rear to check that they looked OK.
Reset the engine warning light.

Started her up, bingo. Good as gold. Took her for a spin. All good, running fine.
Left her a while did the same thing. Started her up and she's running fine.

So in summary. She's magic! :D

Felly reckons she just had a hissy fit! Probably as she won't be kept in the garage for two weeks.

Happy days!

Result..
Always a bonus when it gets sorted with minimum cost..

Indeed. It was good of Felly to say "no point chucking money at it if it doesn't need doing!"

You might want to get a couple of coils. I *suspect* they are probably failing. Mine did a less significant version a few times before it eventually decide not to play ball at all.

could you swap the coils to the other side? that way if it does it again, it should narrow it down easier if it moves or stays

my 3.2 alfa GT did similar, it was fine, and then fine the next day again, but then 2 days later misfiring again! so be ready

You can, or swap them to cylinders 2 and 4....

Out of interest what does Felice have for diagnostics at his place ?

Full Alfa rig, but he has said he has access to an SD3. Never had cause to test this, though. The only time that I needed that level of stuff was when I had a new key added, and when the esteemed Voicey adjusted my clutch

Unfortunately when I picked the 4200 under the engine light popped up again. And is quite frankly running like a dog!

Felice said it's likely to be the plugs so said to get some new ones.
Said it would be ok to drive home as long as I took it easy.

Which is did. And then coming down the M20 it decided that it wasn't going to play ball any more so a pottered along the hard should for a couple of miles at 20mph hoping things would improve. They didn't.

I switched the engine off, thought about calling the RAC, and then realised that Giallo were only 9 miles away. And just off the next junction.
So I turned her back on, she sounded almost normal again, and I set off and even managed to get to the heady speed of 40mph and dropped her off with Matthew.
He reckons it's unlikely to be coils, but will plug in the Maser diag at some point and get to the bottom of things. Couldn't do it there and then as he is stacked out with work.
There must be 20 Masers there.

He did say unless I'm the unluckiest man in the world (every chance then) it shouldn't be too expensive. Mind you it's cost me three quarters of a work day so it's not been cheap already!

Sorry to hear that Mark but at least at Giallo they should be able to get to the bottom of it as something clearly is wrong and it needs sorting - I hope it's 3 figures and not 4!

Good luck

I have a set of 8 coils in the SM Euro Trip Spares bag, they are not for sale but your welcome to try them if you want to come down and get them.

To be fair that was a blowout not a breakdown so doesn't count.

I'm going to Giallo next week so will see your car there. He's mental busy that's for sure.

I hope not. I hope it's a nice quick fix and she can be out of there double quick!

A breakdown is a breakdown. I blame the 32 suspension. ;)
