Generally I found that most drivers behaved very well ,there was the odd one but with that many cars on the track with different abilities it went very well . The few that where a little out of order forgot that this event was not a designated track day but a event to raise money . It's not about how fast you can go (well sort off;-) but to give people a good time . I think they forgot that we all had at some point someone's child in our cars ! I do feel that a better briefing with a few rules applied . Eg . overtaking on the main straight only unless the car in fronts moves over using a signal . As I found most cars inc the gtr where pretty evenly matched though the twisty bits

I think that I am going to insist for next year that my drivers do as I do and if not offered to be overtaken, sit back and wait for the main straight. If the lap has been spoilt, go and do another lap for free with the customer. Also we offered two laps so a lot did two laps and they would have had one really fast lap. I also used to give cars that held me up a head start and then I did not catch them up.
As I said earlier I will do a pre-event briefing of track etiquette next year by email and see if that helps.

Spot on Dave. Anyone who sees a GTR or other faster car bearing on them in the rear view mirror should acknowledge the overtake with an indication. Another option is to have the faster cars have headlights or fogs on alert others drivers much sooner than there will be a car right up their chuff imminently :D

anhhh but I have done trackdays and followed a slower car for a whole lap waiting for the indicator. People don't do it. Blue flags? lol

Exactly. All very good points.

May be less cars on the track at one time and a bigger intervals between releasing the cars (5 secs ) that way slower cars will only be caught up by the straight ,where theres p!enty of room to overtake . This way the faster cars get to hit the bends as fast as there like and not get held up and the slower cars or not so accomplish drivers don't get pressured into making mistakes or upsetting the faster drivers, every one is a winner ,also don't think it would hinder the raising of money as at several times during the day there was quite a que to get on the track . Just a thought .

Any driver can do that for themselves Mav - no one is forcing cars to follow the preceding one closely out of the gate. I've done it if the car infront is obviously slower, and I've gone immediately when it's clear that's as close as I'll ever be to the boot of a properly quick machine! :D

Thats true drew and i think most of us do that anyway. It doesnt stop the car behind you following you straight out of the gate. That where IMO the track stewards could include an instruction in the team briefing to leave a 3 second gap to the car in front on leaving the gate. That way we can all get the right line into the corners and give the best possible fastest and safest ride to our passengers. The quickest laps of the day were all done after 4pm when the track was getting quieter and everyone had the space to pick the best line round the track.

Remember how backed up it was just after lunch? I reckon imposing a 5 sec limit would cause mayhem

I like that - if everyone waited until the car ahead was taking the first bend, then most of the lap would be clear for all drivers, and much safer as a direct consequence. If they know they have a slower car that will never catch up, they can go sooner.

I've said before - I don't drive fast clean laps, as they then don't feel that fast to the punters. Most of them want loads of g in the corners, 'impossibly' late braking and harsh acceleration. It's all the aspects that can't happen in normal road driving with run of the mill cars, and what makes them grin and gasp at what they've just experienced. I see it as an opportunity to let them see a little of the magic these cars have - it doesn't matter to me if it's not the 'best' lap I could personally manage because someone hopefully entertaining another punter happened to be in the way.

Agree, I was using both kerbs on the chicane, clip the right then high up into the left to roll the car then almost clipping the grass on the start of the straight and moving wide to the left quickly, I found that this combination gave the passengers the best feeling of grip, change in direction (kids bouncing from side to side of the car) and speed.

Bloody ****! Sounds like I got something right :)

One other thing I love about Brunty is that when you go back on the road, you have *loads* more confidence in the car. Or at least I do...

Yes it's hard to remember that the Motorway has a speed limit after Brunty eh? :D

Not in a 1.4 Astra!

My car is in surgery currently at Autoshield. Pressure plate tangs have collapsed and the release bearing has been pushed too far so has blown the seals. Not too bad all in all. 3 years and 17,500 miles on that clutch - not great, but not terrible.

Found a couple of videos on youtube, the first might be the incident Contigo told me about where a TVR spun out in front of Mrs Contigo, thankfully she was in a truck, if this is that incident she would be in the George truck. Also note the BS of the driver saying that he did 203mph 'on the clock'. Not sure if he's referring to doing this at Bruntingthorpe but Adam's 458 was 'only' doing 170...

The second shows that some people rather push through an overtake rather than sit back and ensure that the driver in front has seen you.

I'm not convinced by the bragging the guys makes but hey he's got a japanese car, and I'll leave it at that...
