Not at all TMH, your class improved immensely when you came over to the light side. However, while you have a simple system of rodent nomenclature, it could prove to be a bit confusing if you see them altogether.

Here's how classy I am, I had to look up nomenclature in the dictionary

You've just proved my point TMH, most Alfa owners don't know what a dictionary is!!

The 4200 is now on eBay with a start price of £5k. I reckon the guy knows it's serious otherwise he'd have it fixed and get £12k for it.

yes your right, at 5k starting its serious......could be a man without a job/money to fix it though but chances of that are slim.........

Yes right.....well hes obviously got it cheap thinking he can sort it and now cant....
Good of him to mention the prob, a lot of people just waste time by hoping you wouldnt puck up on it and no one will do a check....

Miles, as soon as I read the advert, I thought of you. A simple problem ends up in a total strip down and alot of time off the road.

The simplest thing to do would be to just drive it, look out for a used engine for around the £2k mark and drop it in IF it ever fails.

I suspect there is a deep rooted issue buried deep in the engine somewhere.

Is the 4200 engine same as GS and GT??
Silly question as i know it is but just thinking that parts must be easily available unlike 3200s where they never carried the engine on....

The 4200 and GS have identical engines, RED tops, where the GT runs the BLUE top I believe. Basically, RED top is dry sump (shallower) and the BLUE top is wet sump (taller).

Apart from that they are the same.

The 3200 engine is the end of an evolution of the 80's Bi Turbo lump.

It started off as a V6 TT, then had two extra pistons added in the Ghibli and QP, then was sunset in the 3200.
