Yeah, the wife has had me painting door frames for about the past 6 weeks, so I could do with something to get my teeth into.

Must admit, I am hooked, might be the start of many. Locating all the parts, bit of wheeler dealering, getting them dirt cheap, love it!

You're getting more like Loz every day.............................:)

Matt, not wishing to tell you what you probably know, but are you going to arrange for some alignment checks after removing the bent bits prior to rebuilding it?

Not sure yet as I dont have the car, but it wont be bodged. It looks like the front crossmember only is bent, I will replace that as its bolt on and tack welded. Then I will take measurements from another 147 and then fit the new panels unpainted to see how they line up. Its not bad enough to need jigging, but if I find it does, then it will be done.

Well, 8am this morning, I had a delivery.

Within 90 minutes I had her stripped, and its all looking good. The front crossmember damage was minor and no worse than expected. Both the rads have had it, as has the fan, and the rad cowl. The airbox is smashed and both the rad pipes and 1 short aircon pipe is done. The relay box is also smashed, although the innards are fine. The plastic engine cover is also smashed.

All the turbo is fine.

I found out why the car ran poorly, the airbox was smashed and the MAF airflow meter was completely separated from the inlet pipe, just had to reconnect it.

The rest of the car is mint, even the alloys are ok and the previous owner even put door stips down the doors to stop them getting chipped.

Being the LUSSO top spec model, it has dual climate, leather sports seats, BOSE hifi, cruise control and all the nice little trim items.

To say I am chuffed is an understatement.

BONUS**** Looked in the boot and found the offside headlight, intact, with a couple of broken clips on the back but it is salvageable, and an unopened packet of extra strong mints under the seat.

Why its a cat C I will never know, its a cat D at worst, but that is good for me as it drove the price down.

The used parts are proving to be a pain though.

Hum, its petrol so worth about 70% of the JTD, plus the airbag has gone off. I know it comes with a spare. If you look at the bonnet and wing, they have been beaten back into rough shape and a new headlight fitted, so someone bought it, brought some parts, then found out that the chassis damage was extensive, hence the tart up and sell on.

Buyer beware then...................:(

Progress report 19/8/10:

As you can see it looks quite horrific, but actually, it all came apart really well. No hidden damage, just the airbox and an aircon pipe that the rads smashed into.

This is the final part to be done before I start putting things back on the car. As you can see the crossmember is bent and should be dead straight. Its only £65 and is spot welded in, so that will be a pain drilling all of them out. I will then puddle weld the new part in via the drilled holes and grind then paint.

The chassis legs are fine, there is just a little twist in the end bracket where it attaches to the crossmember. I could have just tied this to a tree and reversed to ease the crossmember out, but I want it done properly. I will cut the crossmember in the middle then heat the chassis end brackets and the lever each end straight, then drill and remove the cross member spot welds.

Ok, it all repaired, with the exception of paint. I insured it yesterday and am driving it without tax and log book as I have my VIC (Vehicle Identity Check) today, so I am aloud to drive it there and back (so I am taking a bit of a long route if you know what I mean).

Ok, it looks 2 tone, black and red (wings, bonnet and front bumper in black undercoat), but it drives beautifully, really pleased.

On route to the VIC test in Southampton, I am taking it to 2 bodyshops to wave some cash and see if I can get the entire car repainted for £1500 cash.

If any of you know of someone that will take me up on this deal, and are localish to me in Chichester (South Coast) please feel free to PM me their details.
