1st bodyshop quote, local guy who I know, whole car except the roof and rear bumper, including the wheels, £1700 cash.

Will he guarantee the blending in for the roof Matt, in writing preferably , Red is the worst colour for that you know

Yes, VIC test all ok.

The second paint price came in at £1500 for every panel except the roof, and this guy is mustard also, so well pleased!

Goes in on the 29th November for 10 days.

Andy, yes, she goes like a steam train and the steering feel, brakes and the pull are fantastic...a proper Alfa, despite the diesel.

Great progress Matt. Just the tuning & Q2 to go now...?

If you want a back to back comparison with mine to see if it's worth doing, let me know.

Cheers Maf, maybe we can bring em both to a meet next spring, then go have a play with them both. There is a chance that Alfa will be replacing the clutch under warranty, so this would be the best time to fit the Q2, how much is the item out of interest?

The diff can be picked up for around £350-£400, which is a bargain in my view. I'm looking at it fully fitted for between £500-£600. If you do any upgrades to the engine it is apparently an essential as I understand that gearboxes can be destroyed relatively easily without a Q2 fitted. The mid-range in mine now I've done the engine mods is very smile-inducing for a 1.9litre oil burner!

the diesel on those cars is good...italians made the diesel like the petrol...

They are OK Dem ..... but not as good as the BMW diesel....Driven I 159 Diesel and then a 3 series and bloddy **** what a difference......OK the BMW was around 7k more for the same sort of car...Plus there.s the passion thing with the Alfa.

The guys I'm talking to are Autolusso in Bedfordshire. They come highly recommended on the AO forum and have fitted loads of these

Interesting to see the damage to a gearbox by a standard diff failing! £500/£600 in maintenance/preventative measures seems very sensible in comparison!

A little update. As you know it goes in for a complete respray with the exception of the roof panel for £1500.

Drove it for about 100 miles on the day of its VIC test and came up with 2 issues. The first was the electric windows creaping down when you open and close the windows. That was resolved by resetting the ECU that controls these, similar process to resetting our electric seats on the GS, open all the way down and continue to hold the button down for 10 seconds, then repeat on the closing cycle.

The second issue is the clutch. Its only done 17k miles and has 5 weeks warranty left on it. The clutch is a little heavy and clicks when it gets to the bottom third of the pedal, which I am told is the spring fingers on the clutch plate, so should be able to get this done under warranty, so quite pleased about this.

I also managed to get the phone number for the previous owner. Spoke to him and he has agree to send me the spare key and the manuals for £50. He sent the service book off to the insurance company, but I spoke to them and they are going to send it back.

Got it insured for £350 in the end, after my usual insurer, Aplan gave me a quote of £600 because it was a cat C, Direct Line did not care. I have 4 cars with Aplan, and feel I will be leaving them this year.

Should be on the road finished 2nd week in December.

Oh, and the Sportwagon went through its MOT first time, so I can get on and sell this now.
