Drove my original Classico down to the Italian lakes over the Alps and back in a week when she had 100,000 miles in fact she passed that milestone on the way down through France ran superbly in hot temperatures in mid August 5 years ago.

True and when Safrane did it in his garage queen he had issues with his AC compressor.

Never ever had an AC compressor issue but mine is on all the time apart from when the windows are down.

Some great replies. Pretty much the same advice when I talked to Tim Walker in Oswestry about 360's (get one with miles on it and one that has been used).

The Turbo was bought at 22k miles 4'years back and I've put 13k miles on it in that time.
But it remains a low mileage example and the history with me shows its no garage queen and I've used it.

The Giallo car at 65k has had a service history doesn't appear to stack up with some larger intervals than annual between services. But I'll look again in case I'm confusing it with another car.

Anybody used ADG at Sevenoaks to buy a Maser?

A few on here have bought from ADG.

With regards to the Giallo GS, speak to Matthew (the owner of Giallo) he'll fill you in regarding the service history.
I believe he's selling it for a customer as opposed to Giallo becoming a car dealer.

Thanks. I emailed Giallo yesterday with around 5 areas of enquiry on specific things but no reply as yet (but I'm on West Coast USA at moment on leave so time difference is considerable).

if he is selling on behalf of a customer on a sale-or-return basis, I'm not interested.
This is a practice I've seen with Porsche and is a grey area where it can be considered a private sale. In high cost vehicles such as these and likely no warranty, I'll not take any chances with SOR sales on behalf of a customer.

I did not appreciate that they are mainly servicing as opposed to sales. Thanks for that heads up.

Don't worry about mileage, my late 2009 GTS is on 75k, so personally I'd be classing a GS with 65k as pretty low :p

Welcome to the forum and good luck with your search, I'm site you will find the one and then it will be smiles for miles.

Just to go back to this manual vs cc thing... is the manual clutch so difficult to source? This is the first I have heard of it but I am still a n00b. I guess instead of getting backboxes in a few months I'll buy a spare clutch! I want to refresh the bushes in the shifter assembly when the time comes I think that will help a lot with the clunkyness (59K miles)

My two cents on this, I test drove both and did not get on with the CC (yes I did use it right). I wanted a manual car because they are dieing out, that said the CC is not an auto so it is special in its own right. Therefore long term I think both manual and CC will be worth similar as they represent different things (racing paddlesgift gearbox or pedal and lever)

I don't see any issues with the 4200 manual, I liked mine! and as I found recently the clutches can be refurbished to as new, so can't see it being much of an issue if they were no longer available

Have to disagree here. I think given the rarity of a " working" manual that in years to come they will rise faster than the cc......jmo mind.

That's what I thought. Yeah I think the manual is great, very rewarding car to drive.

The figures on howmanyleft would confirm that. It's roughly 4:1 ratio between the CC and the last manual maserati made... registered in the UK anyway. 4200CC 501no + GS Coupe 122no to 4200 Coupe GT manual 149no. This is excluding the spyder.

I read somewhere that global sales figures suggest 60% CC and 40% manual but I don't know how accurate that is.

Oh gosh! This is getting confusing. No sooner I had narrowed down to facelift 4200 CC or a GS the topic of manual comes up again. I can see both sides of the argument - that's why I have a 911 Turbo with a manual box - because in my opinion, a true sports car is a three-pedal affair with a stick in the left hand!

Then my research throws up the manual 4200 box was not particularly good anyway, and that clutches are getting harder to source and I dampen my desire for a manual box. Now the investment potential that manual may be just as desirable as CC and the clutches can be referred.

If the manual is a getrag box it will be similar to the older Porsche cars. That box in porsches is excellent including the G50 box giving many years of reliable transmission and easily repairable.

But right now there isn't a manual car to test ride. I will have to try out a GS and then a 4200 facelift CC to eliminate one of them from my final choice.

Matthew also only returned from holiday yesterday, and promptly spent 9 hours working on my car.

Call would definitely be better. I don't find they are too wonderful returning emails. I can forgive them that for all the other stuff they do so well.

Only the manual 3200GT is fitted with the Getrag 6 speeder, very similar to the old BMW 7series, there bullet proof!

I think the best thing to do is drive a 4200 manual, facelift CC and a GS, that way you can experience all iterations of them.

Agree with Phil...now you have narrowed it down only you can decide...Get out and drive and have fun.....As with all single car forums member love there cars which is why they buy them so as you say the Porsche forum has tried to put you off where as this forum will not try and put you off because its a Maserati forum....but what the chaps on her will do is give you warts and all so you can make an informed decision.......

I think you need to take the "investment potential" out of the equation, and find which one you prefer to drive.
