Firstly, thanks for the great forum. Been a real God send of enthusiasm and information for a Maserati newb and helped to push me over the edge to buy my first Maserati. I'm coming from a string of Jaguar XKR's, F-Type's & '90s XJ's. Figured it was time try something different. I've done it all wrong of course, without a PPI (hence the terror, silly sod) but buying from a very reputable dealer with a lot of lovely exotic cars and the car itself appears to have been cherished.

I believe the forum owner is also the owner of SportsItalia so will be booking the car in there for a health check ASAP and praying I got a good one.

Welcome to the madness, total joy and frustration of ownership and forum membership. Look forward to seeing some pics.

Welcome! The excitement will not wane and will stifle any bad vibes due to maintenance cost ;) There seems to be a lot of activity with people selling and buying or at least so it seems from here. Can only be a good thing.

Welcome to the madhouse.

Like you I bought my first Maserati without inspection and worse still, the dealer didn’t have the best of reputations. Thankfully I had 4 years trouble free motoring before having to put my hand in my pocket (other that servicing).

Fingers crossed you will be fine.

They are awsome cars

Welcome. Enjoy.

I keep beating this drum, forget the inspection, save your cash for the actual repairs. No one wants to listen ;)
Look, you are entitled to your opinion. But, IF I had not had a PPI done on mine, I would not have been able to negotiate £4000 off the purchase price. By all means, go in blind if you want to - not everybody agrees with the route you took. Just leave it at that.

I got an inspection on a QP a couple of years ago by Aldous that identified issues that would never have been picked up by a regular garage not familiar with the mark. Upon presenting the issues to the selling garage they decided to not sell me the car and refund my deposit. Had I not had it inspected I would have been several thousand of pounds out of pocket and left with a car needing a part that was unavailable with no firm eta. The car had done less than a 1000 miles. If you find it an acceptable risk good for you but most are recommending it to protect people and in the hope they avoid getting a nasty shock.

Well lets assume you are right about buying unseen and that you are better protected against buying a lemon. Then the only difference between that way of buying and the PrePI way is that you would have to do a PostPI to make sure you hadn’t indeed bought a lemon to make use of your protection. Is that what you’re saying?

The point is very simple, these cars have some potentially very expensive hidden items that you want to avoid or be aware of, whatever route you want to take. These points can be found by someone in the know. So buy unseen or not, an inspection pre or post by an expert is the only logical way to go if you want to avoid a large unexpected bill. The alternative is akin to russian roulette with your wallet.
