UPDATE:

Hyper-defensive cutleroid knows more than anyone and everyone on EVERY forum. And is most definitely not a troll because other members on other forums called him one, but found out they were all wrong.

There’s a theme here somewhere…..
Join the club of people that use the “ignore” function. It’s quite useful, and makes the forum so much nicer. For example, I‘ve just read and enjoyed this thread, quite oblivious of whatever rantings the cutleriod has made. You should try it.

And welcome, and best of luck, to the OP.

So this is classic forum behaviour. Because I might be in the minority here, I can't tout my no need to get an inspection line as much as the get an inspection line?

whenever someone disagrees on the internet, rather than have reasoned conversational debate over a topic, the majority party tries to shut it down with "just leave it".

I'm not sorry if this upsets anyone, but this is the first time I've come across where so many people are focused on pre purchase inspections on a one brand forum.

The world is different. Buying a car using distance selling overs hugely more benefit than this "traditional" route. Your money is protected, you can still get discounts and you have much more time to drive, check and inspect the car at your leisure.

People seem oblivious to the fact I've put my car on a ramp 5 times since I have bought it and 4 of those within the first 14 days.

I haven't got where I am or do what I do because I'm an idiot, and I'm not implying other people are either, but just because the forum opinion of mine does not go with the status quo then it shouldn't be silenced. It should be embraced as an alternative option.

Who is in a more advantageous position? The person with the ultimate right and legal backing to return a motor with 14 days for a full refund or the one who has had it inspected, and something goes wrong in the same time? You have to fight with the dealer for "fit for purpose, and that is a fight, and the fact you had it inspected means you were informed and educated on the car, all of a sudden, it weakens the position.

Buying a car using distance selling gives you options. Those options you can explore relatively cost free.

So OP - sorry you thread has been hi-jacked, congratulations on exploring Maseratis. I still think the inspection was an unnecessary risk, when you could have had the car delivered and from a position of strength negotiated when you hold all the aces.

Fairly sure you can have a PPI carried out and still be protected by distance selling regs.

For ~£250, why wouldn't you do a PPI?

You clearly have time, equipment and friends who help. Most people do not and would need to pay for labour on work.

It's all well and good having blasé attitude and making a joke of it, but people are just trying to help, your advise doesn't seem to help much.

Maybe a post purchase inspection within 14 days is the way to go...

;)

We all have opinions we all have choices and none are better or worse than another just do what you think is right for you.

More importantly we need some photos everyone gets excited about their first Maserati, this was mine and I still miss it

My second was a better car despite the dodgy seller ;)

I ignore almost every one of your posts. I’ve only seen this one as you replied to mine ;) :)

That's not correct, the dealer would have taken the car back...

Yes you would. You hold the legal position to return the car, so if anything in a much stronger position. The dealer has to fund the collection, so without breaking a sweat you have that cost in your pocket, then there is time and other costs. I'd say a dealer would be in for a grand with cost with returning a vehicle.

I had a refund from a garage 5 months after buying my Porsche. Go on boxa.net the thread is there with all the information. Oh they called me a troll there too until enough of them met me to realise I'm being serious.

That's also on that forum. Same in the BMW one. And every other forum I go on.

You're wrong RE the return, it's on the buyer to return the vehicle in the same condition it was delivered and you're liable for the cost of this, inc the insurance / tax you will of incurred to date. Unless the dealer is willing to pay which is unlikely. Once cancelled the dealer may request an image of the mileage and charge any additional miles that the car incurrs, forcing you to get it transported back to them.

£50 to tax a Maser for one month, add a months insurance and maybe £200 to return it, you're at the cost of PPI!

Otherwise the system would be open to abuse, I am in the automotive industry (not a car dealer) but regularly deal with independent dealerships who have such experiences with chancers.

Welcome Lock25.
What a great thing you've done, buying a Maserati, the most beautiful and rewarding car on Earth. :)
I love every minute of mine.
I admire it on the drive through the lounge window. Walking towards it, the light lines are to die for. Touching the drivers door handle with the thick, smooth chrome is sensuous. Opening the door at the touch of a microswitch I see the gorgeous interior, the gearchange paddles, the enticing alloy pedals. Starting produces music and then driving it, the fun begins.
I hope you find yours equally rewarding and I'm pretty sure you will.
Mine looks like this:

Right now it's at Sports Italia, having its once - every - two - years service and some nice extra bits done.
Hope we get to meet in due course

For what it's worth I regret not getting a PPI but I made it home about 150 miles smiling all the way. Think I'm going to have a few questions and need to get it to SportsItalia ASAP so that I can sleep at night but so far so good. Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, appreciate it.

By the way, after buying mine I drove it for a month then took it to SportsItalia who inspected it in detail, spotted and fixed a few things that had not shown up on the PPI, even though the PPI inspector is well respected.
I guess there is only so much inspection you can do without getting the car on a lift and going underneath

Did it get a service in 20 or just the ac work? Don't let that get away from you.. buyers like servicing

Well, that's a different perspective, I must admit though I buy all my cars sold as seen

Dave
I'm the same Dave but the difference being we have been working on them most of our lives and also using them for competition too which gives us a little edge.
Having worked for franchise dealerships and inspected and appraised many cars we could find or hear quite a few issues.

Welcome. Enjoy.

I keep beating this drum, forget the inspection, save your cash for the actual repairs. No one wants to listen ;)

Thats an interesting thought…..An inspection is what around £450….A subframe if fecked is what £3000 to fix and that is just one issue add the variator issue and that’s another £2000 plus. That’s just two potential issues. I am not sure the money saved on an inspection would go that far buddy…The other thing an inspection gives is bargaining power also. But I am sure some have never had an inspection and not had issues (rare mind you on a Maserati) and as long as you go into it with eyes open and understand the pit falls when buying a Maserati then knock yourself out and enjoy. If I was buying one though I would never entertain not having an inspection but then as someone who is not handy with a spanner any issues would need to be sorted by a garage so would always cost me so if that inspection saved me some money I would be happy.

I am beginning to think that maybe you are a relative of Birdcage….
