OK Forumeers..... "To Larini or not to Larini, that is the question... whether it be nobler in the mind to suffer the muted output of OEM, or, by shelling out wads, take audible arms against the sea of V8 Ftype Jags, and by upgrading, end them!"

Advice please.

Cheers.

I've replaced the centre section with an x-pipe from Autoshield which has improved the sound significantly. You still get some pops on the overrun and up changes as well as sounding more 'rorty' without it being ASBO. Only cost about £350 as well so relatively cheap in comparison to Larinis.

Has anyone looked into 200cell cats?

I say this as I recently done this on my car (not a Masser) and the sound difference (with everything else stock) is flipping epic.

I would find your local trusted performance exhaust fabricator, phone them and ask them how much for 200 cell cats.

That sounds like a great cost effective option. At least by doing this I've not shelled out the £2k for the full system only to find that its ruined the car!

Hi Ross

You probably know this already but my brother has a V8 Vantage and he said that a lot of the Aston guys remove their fuse 22 and this gives the exhaust a permanent loud throaty sound.

£2k will only buy you half a system for your car.

You are right sir - what I was referring to buying was this.. LARINI 'CLUB SPORT' EXHAUST REAR BOXES (QUAD TIPS) WITH VALVE CONTROL - MASERATI GRANTURISMO 4.2

https://www.larinisystems.com/collection/maserati/granturismo-4.2

I really don't need the full system. My issue is that its an amazing car that sounds terrific at full chat but, how often do you get to do that? I just want to make it sound a bit louder on normal runs.

You can't really go wrong with Larini. It's very expensive for some bent pipe but is extremely well made. You also have the benefit of minimum 50% residual value if you come to sell your car and revert back to standard.

My GS has a full Larini system including sports cats, h-pipe, link pipes and valved rear boxes. It sounds incredible and is exceptionally loud....I have a trophy to prove it!

I keep thinking about this. H-pipe or X-pipe?

Neither if you want to retain any of your Maserati warranty. They have been known to void warranties on cars with any modifications at all, including different wheels, exhausts, remaps etc.

Whatever you choose, enjoy it! I have H, but would probably prefer X. You can't go wrong with Larini kit. Plenty of the cars on the forum have video footage to compare different options.

H is throatier and deep, and I'd say more 'punchy'; X is raspier and crackly. Performance? I doubt you'll notice much between the two on the road, but apparently the H should have more torque gain than the X.

Maf, I've just noticed your avatar - pleased to see the picture being put to good use :)

Can anyone explain what the differences are in terms of sound / performance?

In simple terms :

X pipe will give a higher pitched scream with a tone heading more towards the ferrari sound.

H pipe is more of a low down roar deep burble sound.

This is my 4200 with a H pipe and Tubi style rear boxes which seemed to go down well at brunty going off the passengers comments that myself, Andyk and MLC took round the track in it.

Spartacus has a similar video with the X pioe fitted instead.

Thanks mate

I did the Fuse 22 modification immediately - it still wasn't enough noise. I got 200 cell sport cats recently fitted and the noise is sublime. It sounds almost as good as a GTS ... I bet that will raise some eyebrows.

Zero difference in performance, neither will add very much on their own. H-pipe is lower pitched, x-pipe is higher.

I reckon H pipe on my GTS knocks a few horses off at top end. It's all to do with Scavenging of gases and H is not as good as X pipe at Scavenging.
