F1 pump not heard when unlocking/opening door concern....

Interesting thread! Oddly enough, just the other day, the same thing happened me but with a twist. I had parked just outside my garage where there is a slight downward hill. I left it in 1st for added confidence (that it wouldn't roll back due to a weak parking brake). When I returned a few hours later, I didn't hear the pump prime while getting in the car. Started her up, but it was as though the clutch was engaged and promptly stalled with the F1 warning light coming on. I restarted, the light went out, and all is well again with the car.
Pretty weird though! I'll just chalk it up to the gremlin!

Normally of course the first thing it should have done when you turn over the engine is automatically take it out of gear into neutral, then it turns over the starter motor, which it hasn't.

Of course you are correct. Thankfully it only happened the one time, and I've heard the pump prime ever since with no issues what so ever.
Still obsessively listening for the pump (and hearing it thank god!! :) )

Interesting as I had a slightly similar experience some days before realising the F1 pump noise was gone. I had parked on a very slight slope with handbrake on and in First gear. but when I came to start the car 10 minutes later, it would not start on turning the key and the brake pedal felt locked hard down (no movement). I suspect that the car moved forward while parked and somehow engaged the gear so it was difficult to disengage. I solved this by pushing the car back a little and it disengaged. Then the gear moved to neutral and the car started.

However I also have another theory that Safrane mentioned, the drivers door may be the culprit, as yesterday the lock started to play up. when I pressed the key to lock and alarm, the car locked and 1 second later unlocked the doors. so I ended up using the key to lock the car, which worked. so I am suspicious that a micro switch in the drivers door is dodgy. (this would explain why I do not hear the F1 pump whine on unlocking/opening the door).
I will be looking for some guidance on the door micro switches, which I do remember reading some time ago!

I also found that the Alfa Selespeed pump Part No: 51736315 is currently on offer for £240 inc VAT. (which seems a pretty good price!)http://www.alfaworkshop.co.uk/parts/Alfa_Selespeed_pump.shtml

Very interesting comments, thank you.

This I believe is just the pump part, if you order from Maserati, you get another little electronic box attached

Not sure that's the case. There is a least one guy from the US forum who bought from Jamie on my recommendation. He didn't need to add / swap anything.

Hi Parisien - What is the little electronic box attached? It comes with the black connector (finger size) is their something else as well?

There are four micro switches in the door, 2x glass, 2x handles, and I think there must be something in the lock too.

There is at least one that indicates open / closed on the door.

I did have a list of 7, but can't find it now.

The issue could be when parked on a slope, if the nose is downhill try parking in reverse, just a thought..!!

James - I'm just going through some odd happenings with my locking / unlocking on another thread; as a result I may have a new unused driver's door lock for sale as I think my issue is else where in the system!
The door lock does send a signal to the pump to prime as soon as the unlock is pressed. It also sends the signal to the passenger door to lock / unlock too. It's a quite complicated part for what is doing.

Hi David,
Apologise for the delayed reply, I have been away for the past week and just catching up today.
I also believe my problem lies in the drivers door lock for a couple of reasons, firstly because the F1 pump and relay obviously work when the engine is running, but not when the car is unlocked and secondly the drivers door lock occasionally plays up (unlocks after locking) which I had attributed to being in the hot sun on both occasions.
I thought I had spare lock, which I cannot find! So I may be interested in your drivers door lock and will ping you separately.
Thank you.
James
