Factory Trip to Modena

Last thursday I did the Maserati factory tour in Modena. It was really enjoyable. We were travelling up from the south so built in some time just in case we got delayed. We didnt, so we popped into the Museo Enzo Ferrari which is literally 30 secs round the corner. That was ok but not as good as Maranello.
First off, I was allowed to park on the factory site itself, as I was in mine, which was nice. Then we waited in the "showroom" part until it kicked off. There was a 10/15 minute history of the brand etc, which was ok. Then we went onto the factory site (small group, about 6 of us). We had ear pieces and our guide talked us through everything. We went to the acutal production line first, which was really interesting. Then we headed into the test bays where the finished MC20s were given the water test, shake test and others. Then they took us into the future engine dept, which was the most interesting. Full of mules, Alfas, Maseratis including the new Granturismo. It was camouflaged but I had a good butchers at the interior.. which looked great. We then saw the emissions stuff, cars going through testing and the dynos with engines they were bench testing (including the electric motor bays, which we were told was the most important test area in the whole of Stellantis group). We then saw the engine assembly line, which was really impressive, and finally the painting line. (he explained why 2 and 3 coat paint is so much more expensive).
The whole thing took about 2.5 hours, which was tiring as it was 42C! All in all it was a really good experience, and they didnt hide anything. In total saw 2 new Granturismos, a few Grecales, Stevlios and a Ghibli all wired up for testing.

It is a nice free-be, even my GF enjoyed it (In fact both have, but over different decades).

How many lines were working, and were there any GTs on the line at all, or just the test car?

It is a great tour isn’t it? We did it with 20+ people on the TTP tour. Sounds like they have kicked it up a notch since then with the earpieces.

They only make the MC20 there at the moment, 6 per day. Not sure where the GT will be made. They just had 2 prototype/test cars there

I think the GT is to be built in Modena alongside the MC20. I personally would not want it to be built in Turin or Cassino if I was ordering but I suspect 95%+ of buyers would not care.

Reading your account makes me realise that we must do this again. Thank you.

My son and I were there in 2015 and had a tour on our own. We also did Ferrari (disappointing), Lambo (superb), and Ducati (even better), but at that time the only cars being made in the Maserati factory in Modena were the GT's and 4C's.

No pics for obvious reasons (you arent allowed!)

I must say too that the Ghibli was brilliant. Did 2500 there and back (with a few hundred whilst there).. Hull to Rotterdam ferry then down to south of Rome, and back again. Did the Gottard pass both ways but the highlight road was the A1 Panoramico from Bologna to Florence. 2 lanes, virtaully to myself of flowing carriage way

Also touched German autobahn on way home, sat at around 110-120 for a bit (the GF wasnt having anything more :p)

Boot is massive and brought loads of booty back. And averaged around 40mpg which I was happy with
