Have to say I really don't get being embarrassed about what car you own.
C

+1.
It would like saying to your wife/partner "I don't want to be seen in public with you if you wear designer shoes/clothes/bags" as it sends out the wrong message.
If the car you drive embarrasses your "friends" it isn't the car you should change!

Women, you can't live with them and you can't shoot them legally. Grow a pair and tell her to speak when spoken to. :D

I have a mate who won't even sit in his Aston as it is too ostentatious she will run round in a high spec 5 Series Touring that cost much more to buy although the way one is depreciating and the other is increasing the financial point has been well made.

i agree if you sell a car that you love just because your wife does not like it you will resent it. it really depends how much you like your car? i also agree don't sell your toys the kids may like them when they get older. When i sold my last TVR which my wife didn't like, my kids were the most upset. I was not too upset as i bought my Maserati as a replacement and have never looked back :)

Such a stimulating set of threads today- gutted my MacBook has taken a bath and phone restricts typing with a 2 year old pulling my arm.
I am in a similar situation - not that she is embarrassed- but certainly doesn't think anyone 'needs' a Maserati level car. Has a skill to make me feel guilty subtly and with the odd look but I am standing firm.
Surprised she doesn't like the ghibli - good VFM especially as a diesel.
Being embarrassed about success is Certianly
Unusual - Most of her friends will be the opposite.
re: rear facing seats. If Richard has one that fits - go for it. I waited until mine was 18 months to buy my GTs and put her in a forward facing one which is much less of a hassle than I thought. Certianly worth it for the theatre of the car.
Wives will never be truly happy with their husbands shelling out loads on cars that they don't appreciate. So get her what she wants - cheaper the better- and keep your first choice car. Regardless of how much it's used. I am going
Through a similar dilemma as mine is not used much- but as soon as it's gone- it will be infinitely harder to replace IMO

I recon you should let her read these threads, sit down with a glass of wine and see what happens ;)

I think the issues are not just the car. My missus won't go in the 4200 although she loves it and thinks it's the best car I've EVER bought. Only and purely as I modded the exhaust heavily and it is very loud. She has zero issues with me having it and has told me I can never sell it.

The QP she loves and has no issues her or the kids going in it. I work my butt off in all I do for my wife/kids and she knows this also that I love cars. She would let me buy any car I wanted but would not go in all of those choices. That is not an issue though as we have other choices to go out in all together.

Tough one but maybe ditch the Ghilbli but never let the GTS or a Maser replacement go. You'll always regret it I'm sure.

I have had some lovely cars over the past 10 years and to be honest my kids always felt a bit awkward / embarrassed. Even my daily has been a 2-3 year old Jag XJ.
Most often I would have to take them to various clubs and activities in the wife's daily.

My wife is embarrassed about the Maserati and tells her friend that the Jag is a Company car forced on me (it's not).

I bought her a Mid range Silver Vauxhall Corsa to satisfy her lust for being Mrs normal.

As for me the new Jag and the Maserati sit on the drive and the 1965 Mustang sits in the garage........
Take me as I am or not at all !

Reminds me of a good friend who decided to wrap his black 997 Turbo, his missus refused to be seen in it again!
...he kept a paper bag in the car, incase he picked her up unexpectedly while he was driving it, she then had a choice whether to use the paper bag or not!

Wow interesting reading.
Benny you should do stand-up comedy mate.
An embark on a International tour for the sake of keeping men real.
I have been around cars and motorcycles all my life they are in my DNA.
They earn my living and have provided well for two ex wife's two kids of my own and two step son's and a dog that cost thousands to bring to NZ.
Learning lessons in life I now have a girlfriend/partner no kids.
She looks like Michelle Mouton and loves cars and what we can do with them and the people we meet.
Technically with all the money I have she'd I'm near skint but I'm healthy getting plenty Benny eat well and have a Maserati with a roof rack.
Life is Good and I'm not being changed ever again by a woman.
I could have had my 360 Modena here with the 4200 otherwise.

I suspect I may not have been an isolated case, although my ex disliked the car getting a lot of attention, mainly from other women.

My bet is that there could be an insecurity issue, otherwise they actually tell you a lot about the person driving them (assuming you don't have larinis)!

Interesting responses. Before this gets out of hand there is no need to trade my wife in. She is in fact very flexible and she herself spends next to zero.

The thing is she is from a family of university teachers whose main aim in life is to gain knowledge and not really have any desires for money. And she is totally like this. Has no interest in handbags, shoes, jewellery or shopping just likes to buy some books now and again.

I guess she is a bit self conscious and doesn't like to be seen as flamboyant.

I don't need to get another car she has gone back to her Y reg written off Ford Focus which I thought I was getting rid of!

Think I have convinced my friend to take the Ghibli as he was going to get a Jag....

On a humorous note reminds me of when my younger brother met a girl on holiday when he was about 15. He caught a train up to Birmingham to stay with the girl and her parents and as my dad and I were going to the Motor Show at the NEC that Sunday we arranged to pick him up on our way back.

As it turns out, unknown to my dad and I, her parents were very left wing teachers so you can imagine the reaction when we turned up at their house to pick my brother up in dad's Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II. The girl was not allowed to see my brother again after that!

My GFs family and friends are all academics and also have no desire to own a nice car etc...in fact I am frequently told that none of her wealthy Dr and Prof frieds own cars like that. To which I retort 'so thats why they are so miserable and boring to be around'

All they seem to want to do is save for their old age.
