The battery should be vented to the outside by a small pipe plus they contain very little (relatively) moisture, so I wouldn’t be looking there, even if the alternator was overcharging.

For condensation you need a surface that is colder than the dew point of the air. This means either a) the humidity is artificially high or b) the surface is very cold. A is much more likely so I’d be checking for water under the battery, the boot seal, the seal around the rear lights, as if there is no water the humidity would drop to normal levels when the boot was opened.

Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Good to know :)

I would be lightly tasting that condensation to rule out whether its battery/trickle charger/alternator related , if there is no acid taste to it .........then it has to be temperature differential related my dear Watson

Failing that I,d be staking out the car for full 24-36hrs ..................that way you would be able to catch the wifes lover hiding in the boot hook line and sinker

Are you keeping the trickle charger inside the boot? If so, I would remove it to the outside and stick it in a dri box or similar. You can get a ctek extension lead from Amazon.

POTENTIAL SOLUTION FOUND!!

So after the comments about battery venting (shout out to Catman V2..) i decided to look at the battery in detail and touch the components to see if anything was warm to touch..

I found a pipe which i presume to be the battery vent pipe loose in the boot! it looks to me like it is supposed to exit the boot behind the exhaust grille. (see photos attached) It even has a grommet on it to seal the boot once that pipe is properly placed.

i attempted to take some photos to demonstrate above and if anyone has the same kind of battery/vent pipe set up, i would appreciate if anyone can confirm this is where it is supposed to go! Bear in mind my car is a MC Edition so has 2 central exhaust pipes with a different diffuser at the rear so other GC Sports may have vent going to a different location.

in any case, please let me know and in future, if anyone is getting the same issue, hopefully this thread will be helpful!
Regarding that knocking noise, i dont know if the video link worked in my first post but any advice on that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

It's really tough to diagnose with sound recorded by a cell phone over the interwebs.

Well done on the search!

I will do my best:

1 That could be literally anything. I would silicone spray the window rubbers and cycle the window and put the roof mid way and white grease all the hinge points as a start.
2 leaks into the cabin from the GranCab are common and these are the common areas:
- blocked drains under the hood cover, pour water down them each side and you should get wet feet from where it exits
- The rubber pipe on the drains comes off...it can be as simple as that, cable tie them at the top where they fit onto the drain fitting
- Rear window, see if the material is coming away from the glass
- Hood floor cover. To do the carbon canister which is a 4 year service item, you have to remove the carpet and the large metal panel. If its not re siliconed, then water will pass into the cabin
- general gaps in the rear bulkhead, remove the rear seats and shine a torch towards the boot and look for gaps and seal as necessary. The main hinges on each side where they bolt to the body are known.

1. A rattle/rubbing noise coming from either the suspension or the roof. i have taken a video and hopefully you can see the video through this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UU6mzbAZM80hAnzOfELbrO7FZE1OyU8f/view?usp=share_link . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2. Condensation in Boot: i will summarise what is going on to make easier reading:

- noticed when the weather got colder, not in summer (although car was driven more in summer)
- Car has been to Scuderia London where they checked for leaks and cleared drain holes which is under roof flap, not in boot. Problem still persists. unknown if there are drain holes in boot, any advice would be appreciated
- have read Chenders post about water in boot on his '11 GC and mine is not filling up like his.
- I have tried checking the rubber boot seal itself which goes around the rim, and even placed tissue paper all round it and tucked it into the creases and washed the entire car and it was completely dry!
- I have now stripped off the boot lid lining (as you can see in the pictures) and tried the tissue roll water test, of which no water seems to be getting through anywhere, and condensation is literally everywhere on the top of that boot lid.
- i have tried garaging the car and still condensation is a huge problem (left in a garage for 3 weeks and still mould building in the boot linings.
- I have tried putting car moisture traps of amazon in the boot, and they are getting full but condensation is building, and its building fast!!
- NO water is visible in the lower part of the boot, its all only at the top on the boot lid itself and mould builds in the corners closest to the wheel arches.
Please help if anyone has a resolution to this condensation problem, i cannot see anywhere where water is leaking into the boot and have tried garaging the car to see if it is rainwater which it appears not! Im literally pulling my hair out!
Hopefully the photos will help and thank you in advance for your responses!

Looks like the right place to me. The hole is more likely to be the cause of the condensation than the battery, but either way hopefully it’s sorted.
