Gransport versus 3200GT

Owning a Gransport for a while, makes me doubt if i did the right thing/made the right choice.
Why do i still think about the 3200 so often?

Quite strong are my feelings now, wanting to buy a 3200GT again.
What could be done about the less secure ride, how could we improve the car in such a way, that it is starting to behave like a Gransport somehow?

Do any of you have some experience in improving the 3200GT regarding roadcontrol and stability?
Do 19" rims and tires, Asetto Corsa rollbars and a different wheelgeometry similar to the Gransport bring the wanted improvements?
Can anyone comment on the real differences between a standard 3200GT and an Assetto Corsa? (Regarding stability/roadcontrol.)
Do any of you know a 19" rim design looking like the original 18" ones?

The engine still seems the strongest part of the car, somehow i mis those turbo's woohsing, the huge torque delivery (OMG, how i loved that biturbo V8!) and of course those boomerang rearglights.......

Glad to hear your comments guys!

You are not the only one to bring this up. The GS is far more well behaved car conpaired the the 3200 and thats what some owners miss. Interested to hear others thoughts....Even Maser Sod is selling up but he is going for a Ghibli Cup.

That's a can of worms you have opened there Luuk.

For me, having had both it's the GS all the way for me, I accept the turbo thing but the GS just does everything so well.

I had the same thoughts when looking for another car looked at a few GS's but when a low mileage one owner 3200 AC came up no contest AC all the way for me. I love the GS but lights & turbo's do it for me every time.

Can't fault the handling but for track days I would take my Ghibli GT .

Now not owned a GS yet but driven many adn I would have to agree with Matt....The GS is a far more sorted car and is better to use as a daily driver........Perhaps you need to have both that may be the answer.

Hum, Andy, now there's an idea. A high miler 3200 Auto for the week, GS or GT for the weekends....the wife would go nuts!

But Luuk when she curbs the wheels or picks up car park dents, you will be the one that will go nuts, brave man, but I like your thinking!

For me the 3200 is the last real Maserati and the last true manual - but certainly not the best all round drive. When it gets to a point that the yearly service/maintenance costs ourstrip the cars value it will probably be time to move on to another marque, none of the later coupe models float my boat in comparison and I completely agree with Pibbow. Maybe a F430 for fun (may even be old enough to go for the F1 gearbox when I can afford one) and a stonking 4 door stormer (ok so this is more fun) to replace my company saloon if and when I stop doing stupid miles for a pathetic 16p a mile! Now that would really upset the Wife!

I do accept what you say about the 3200 being the last of breed.

Agree again....but no the last of the real Maserati......Every generation will say the same about the cars of their time...In 20 years when the bloody do gooders have stopped us driving big engine cars and we have have our fav cars with Electric power will say that the GT was the last of the real Maserati....

Miss the turbo whoosh but the GS is better in every dept except the absence of those beautiful lights. Then there's the reliability, different planet, never mind ball park!

We should have a new member joining soon, Maserati club member that i met at Le Mans Classic , he is selling his ghibli cup aswell , maybe one for Masersod , he also has a 4200 spyder , says the 3200 he used to have was no where near as reliable as the 4200 , we know that already , but when it was on song reliably he would have it over the 4200

With a nearly 3k bill to lay out on collection from the garage this Friday, it's difficult justifying my initial lay out for my 3200 only 5 months ago. Don't get me wrong, loving the car but not sure how long the family can sustain this sort of ownership.

That is the one thing that stops me getting a 3200 no matter how cheap they are...great cars and great value but I just couldn't justify the running costs. I was lucky with my old one as it didn't cost anything bar a service but they are now getting on and some of the bills you hear about on here are eye watering....Shame.
