GS advice

I recall she looked nice in the pictures, but I didnt actually enquire about this particular car (I've been looking for what seems like a lifetime....but is actually about 5 months, seriously). As such, I'm not well placed to tell you how she'll drive on the Devon roads.

Value wise, its very difficult with the GS as there really isnt that many of them around. I would say its driven by how its been looked after historically and what is going to need doing soon. If it has a good clutch, good brakes, no services due and had both the milage and annauls (if needs be) done, then it should fetch £30k all day long. If its missed services, has a clutch on its way out, still on original brakes and is due a service soon, you could easily argue it down to mid-£20k's.

As said above, if there is any way you can get it inspected, it'll be the best £200 you'll ever spend - either for the peace of mind or to give you something to negotiate over.

Woody.

frank hi...

woody and conaero have given you good advice and are best to talk to about the GS as they know them better than me...
all ill say is i own a 3200 and an inspection is something i would recommend..i know your cars are better but
you never know what you will find..also £200 you spend you are guaranteed to get it back..anything minute even
to knock the price down....
good luck with her....

MWA Insurance will get my money - happy to give contact details if you want, send me a PM.

Dep'n - they only brought 375 of them to the UK and some say they're Maserati's F355 (though I think thats a bit stong). Difficult one to answer. I'd probably look at what happened to 3200's as a guide - good ones still get good money, lesser ones will continue to slide.

well i feel they will come down....GT prices are coming down next step from GS is GT.....
the only cars to keep their value for the next few years i feel is the AC...not just saying it because i have one
just that theres no successor to it...

it is woody yes...is it that desirable though??
the 3200 was pretty bad and the AC sorted a few things....
MC is a special edition but dont think theres that much differnce in price as we found out with some posted as the GS is a very good car itself

Welcome Frank to the Forum.

I am a Gransport LE owner and the only advice I can give you above and beyond what has already been said is to look at a few cars before deciding and go for the very best you can afford. Surprisingly the difference in cost between the car you have been looking at and newer or more low mileage example is surprisngly little. To emphasise what has been said no matter what car you buy go for an independent inspection.

If you buy from a main dealer whilst this is more expensive you do have the assurances that the car will be covereed by Maserati Used Car warranty

Frank,

I've seen worse interiors that for sure! Personally, it wasnt for me (I saw one at Graypaul recently and decided it didnt show off the qualitites of the interior enough) but its personal choice. Whatever thoughts you're having now others will have when you sell.....but I would say whether or not you buy it, someone will buy it eventually. Someone certainly bought the Graypaul car and I dont think it was for sale long!

I completely agree re the % of how close the car is. I started looking for 100% and over time, it certainly dropped off. How long have you been looking and how many others have you looked at? For the money you're looking at spending, you could buy the majority of the GS's currently for sale.

Best of luck in your search.

Frank, does that include any work that needs doing post PPI? I think Dicky (who has bought 2 GS's in the past) fancies getting something similar (non-LE maybe) for less, so its possible.

For me, I've found that buying from a dealer is attractive (if you''re happy paying a premium) but you might get a better priced car privately, so long as you can find a realistic seller....and I reckon private sellers would now wait until the sun comes out.

Its doable, for sure, but I think its the luck of the draw (very few cars in the UK, so who knows what will come on sale when?). As Dicky pointed out a good few cars have come for sale rcently, so keep looking. The one you're looking at, IMO, sounds like a close match to your requirements but PPI would be essential....

Sorry Frank, per-purchase inspection (PPI).

Clutch at 60% - I've been told they can run until 90%....but I've also been told that the readings are not especially accurate.

If the car is of interest and nothing major came up from the inspection, bar the clutch, I would still be looking for some money off.

Best of luck.

Woody.
