GS wheel refurb

So, after kerbing the rear passenger side and then clipping the front passenger side on the Eurotunnel train I can no longer bear to look at my imperfect wheels. Lepsons are the refurbers of choice given the excellent reviews they generate. Not cheap, it's going to cost me about £400 as I want the wheel centres painted the same colour as the wheels. I'm led to believe it'll be worth it; lets hope so as I'm known to be a fussy bugger! Wheels are being collected on Friday and will be returned just over a week later. Lepsons service is quicker than this, I just won't be around to take delivery before then. Assuming I'm happy with the outcome I will post some pics. Wheels will be pristine in time for Bruntingthorpe.

£100 a wheel does sound pricey but I do believe that Lepsons are the best and you will not be disappointed......Plus as you have the best looking Gransport ever made she deserves it.

The guys Autoshield uses are very good too, think they were around £240 odd for a set, and the did the inserts too. Had one done 6 weeks ago and rekerbed same wheel again last week....oh well....

Frank, I think I would cry if I refurbed and the curbed within a week of getting it done.

Aaaaargh...

Or: why not follow my recent strategy - score a set of manked-up old 3200 rims on eBay, fit them, and kerb the cr@p out of them to your hearts content (keeping the pristine refurbed alloys on a pedastal somewhere in the garage (if you have one) or sitting room (if you don't / prefer) :D

What's the point? Your car will still look cr4p with kerbed rims no matter how many sets of pristine rims you have tucked away.

It's like some people on other forums who have their cars fully detailed, and then vinyl wrapped....

Like keeping the plastic on the new sofa.

I've just had my GS wheels refurbed and don't like the colour, of sample wheels they had available I wanted a shade darker than the grey they had so took the next colour from the list which the guy agreed would be what I wanted, unfortunately I don't like how they've turned out so i'm going to get them re-coloured :(

Who did your refurb?

I'm going with a standard colour provided by Lepsons - dark anthracite:
http://www.lepsons.com/standard-colours/

My wheels have been refurbed previously before my ownership and to a very basic standard (i.e. clearly just the faces, no tyre removal and poor paint finish). Although only 2 of mine need a little work I've decided to have them all done so that they're as new. I can then use my wheel sealant/waxes etc to keep them in good order.

I'm liking the Satin black......plus the dark anthracite would be the one I think. Although it doesn't look that dark in the pictures but woul imagine thats just the pic.

That dark anthracite is what i hoped mine would look like, though in reality there's a bronze-ish tint to them. i had them done by 1st class alloys in Lichfield, i really can't complain about the quality of their work it's just not the colour i was hoping for

Minor update - various calls back and forwards with Lepsons as they're keen to make sure I get the exact colour I want. The centre caps don't need anything doing to them and Lepsons would have to paint over the chrome Maserati emblems as they won't guarantee to remove them without them breaking. Having looked at a couple of options and spoken with their paint technician I'm going to have the wheels finished in the original factory finish of Grigio Mercury. It'll cost a little extra for a special paint finish, but I'll save on having the centre caps painted. In all I'm glad I had the opportunity to make the decision.

Grigio Mercury should look good against that yellow, MAF. Mind you, I think your blacks look pretty good against the yellow, too. Grigio Mercury is what mine will be... when they eventually come back! At least they'll look good for Brunti . Well, unless I go and ding the bu66ers again in the meantime! I had toyed with the idea of going black but it would look too gloomy against a dark grey.

Mine are currently a dark grey of some description, but look black in some photos. The standard colour is lovely, so I'm looking forward to seeing them in pristine condition. The car is currently sitting on a set of silver 4200 wheels - the silver really doesn't go well with the yellow.

Ooh, I'll watch this with interest MAF. Grigio Mercury, as per the factory spec, is a paint colour, not a powder coat colour. Factory Grigio Mercury is actually paler than most wheels you see purporting to be that colour. The factory spec Grigio doesn't have a flake in it either. I've been playing with the colour on mine to get them as close as possible to the correct colour. I'm still a shade too light because of the effect of the lacquer, but I'll have them re-done ahead of Brunty when Matt details the car. It'll be interesting to compare them.

That's interesting, Miles, thanks. I'll check what mine were done wih and post a picture, if I can manage to get one that gives an honest enough representation of the colour. In terms of durability / maintenance, is there anything to pick between powder coat and paint?

(I can see the WAGs will be over-joyed as we compare wheel colours and finishes at Brunti )
