GS wheel refurb

Ooh, I'll watch this with interest MAF. Grigio Mercury, as per the factory spec, is a paint colour, not a powder coat colour. Factory Grigio Mercury is actually paler than most wheels you see purporting to be that colour. The factory spec Grigio doesn't have a flake in it either. I've been playing with the colour on mine to get them as close as possible to the correct colour. I'm still a shade too light because of the effect of the lacquer, but I'll have them re-done ahead of Brunty when Matt details the car. It'll be interesting to compare them.
Good info, Miles. I didn't know about the lack of flake - they didn't say either way so it could be their own version/interpretation. Lepsons process is to strip, repair damage then powder coat before any special paint finishes. I believe the lacquer is powder coat as well.

Lepsons wheel refurbishment

My wheels are also in with Lepsons this week for a refurb - I'm changing the colour from standard flat silver to bright sparkle silver - hopefully they should look great against the Argento Luna.

My wheels were powder coated and done in I think starburst silver, which has a sparkle flake in it. I also think the lacquer is powder coated. I think my avatar shows the results. Can post some photos if anyone is interested

These are powder-coated. Assuming the wheels were originally the colour of the centre-caps then they have come up just a shade darker, but not so much as you'd notice unless you're really concentrating. Interestingly the rears appear darker than the fronts, due to being more concave and having the light hit them at a different angle. And then when you look from another angle the shade is slightly different again. Anyway, they look excellent, thrilled to bits with them. AND - I managed to drive home without dinging them (touch wood touch wood touch wood).

I had my alloys re-ferb at a local paintshop. I had the colour changed to a light Anthracite from the factory silver. There was a few marks on the alloys, scuffs and light kerbing. The paintshop charged me £50 per wheel and that was for both in and out side paint and all repairs2013-04-25 20.06.35.jpg. I will take a better phot and add it at the weekend. The body shop was C & S Coachworks at Seaham Co Durham. If any one want the number just let me know.

Well, mine are back on the car. Arrived today, so I got home a little earlier due to the excitement (I need to get out more). I won't go into the bonus set of AMG wheels delivered to my house, just got straight into unpacking the GS wheels and checking for 100% perfection. I reckon they're 95%+ but then I am a very fussy bugger! Cleaned them all, 2 coats of Harlys and another coat of Poor Boys wheel sealant. They look shiny, are very smooth to the touch and of course smell good enough to eat. Some pics during the wax/sealing and some poor shots of them on the car - it was getting quite dark as I fitted them with more care than handling my first born for the first time!

Haha Phil. I didn't really give her any choice! I made sure the wheels were put in the hall and used the packaging on the floor while I waxed them - terrified of damaging them. Thanks very much again for the loan of the wheels, we'll work out how they're coming back to you after Brunty.

Some pics in daylight. Not sure how they'll come out as they're phone pics again. 4x4 ride height will settle once I've got round to driving her tomorrow.

Looking really good, Mark. Glad you're pleased with them. I'll be interested to see if your 5% gripes are similar to mine. There really is only so close you can get to perfection before it become tortuous!

Very nice Mark, I really do need to get mine done so I guess I'll pop it up on axle stands while the wheels are away.
I only problem I had with Lepsons was that they said they could only paint the caps the same colour in their entirety and not pick out the Trident logo in the silver which it is currently so I am still pondering whether to go with them, but their quality looks very good.

Stuart, drop PhilW a PM but I'm sure he would be ok with you having his wheels a while whilst yours are being done, they will only be sitting about for a few weeks after Brunty, I'm up the A1 most weeks & can drop them off... I am aiming to drop them back to Phil late September when I'm next down in the South West :)

I had the same conversation with them, Stuart. I was originally going to go with their standard dark anthracite colour, but after a few conversations I discovered they were very knowledgable about the Maserati Grigio Mercury colour and could finish the wheels to standard spec. This meant I didn't need to have the centres painted as they told me they couldn't remove the chrome tridents as they would probably break. Now I've had the wheels done my OCD last night told me I should buy 4 brand new centres in Grigio Mercury as they don't look as good as the wheels!
