GTS MC Shift vs Aston Martin Vantage Roadster

I wish mine had alcantara seats actually. It's probably the one bit I wish was different. I've never heard of that kit and I had a look on PH and they're bandying around the 13k figure for it without the fitting! On the same thread there's a shady picture of the car with the replacement splitter and it's hardly noticeable, certainly not GT12 looking (not that I'd want the bloody spoiler on any car). Whilst having 600 bhp and a raucous racket appeals to my childish sensibilities, it's mental money and as it is I can't keep up with a 2CV if there's even a sniff of rain. It's made me wonder how people get on with proper big stuff.

Do you have the standard seats or those stunning carbon backed sports ones in the yellow one I posted.

I woukd imagine the early manuals will hold well or maybe go up as with most modern performance cars having paddle shift a V12 with a manual box is pretty rare these days.... Well apart from the V12 S manual that has just come out.
We bought the DB9 because it had a manual box, got the Quicksilver back boxes and straight through Decat pipes, sounds like a DBR9 now. So much better than the paddle shifters.

Iain, get yourself to Dick Lovett in Bristol as they have one for sale in the showroom. It is just an amazing looking machine. Can't drive it on the road though and most tracks in the U.K. It's too loud for.

Watch this.....i so want to drive it just once...

Wow.... my wife just caught me watching this...and lost it! She actually thought I was thinking of getting one.
I must admit I did do the deadpan 'if I don't do it now , I never will talk'.

Mate of mine has just bought one a Vanquish, he was looking at a GTS or Strad but then went and got his man maths abacus out and spent nearly double on a Vanquish!

Hi John if you are reading :D

Hi Phil, :)

I still think the GTS MC-Shift or Stradale is a stunning car especially for the money. It has very little if any competition as a GT and can easily be a daily driver. But then this Vanquish has the oh so rare CF Lightweight Seats with 'Q' trim, and that V12 and full CF body and is drop dead gorgeous in its special paint so indeed the abacus was put to use.

Having also had a Vantage the choice between that and a GTS really comes down to what you are looking for. Both are great cars but one is really a sports car and the other really a GT (even if they can both crossover). So it really depends what side of the fence you want to fall on. I went Aston both times but it was close against the Vantage and came down to it being built down the road (and I got a factory tour etc and saw my car being built so it was just a bit more special) and I did not want to regret not buying an Aston having got the chance. But there is no bad choice here.

Did look at those seats and thought I hadn't seen another Vanquish with them in. Nice.

I've driven Vantage 4.3 and 4.7 and agree with everything Murph said in his two posts. For me the ragtop Vantage loses that svelte Aston look.

If the desire for noise is the issue than what about the DB9, which I think looks good in volante form? It has the same engine as the Vantage V12 but is very much a nice handling GT rather than a quasi sports car. Listen to that V12 when you give it some beans and enhance with a sports exhaust if necessary. Prices appear to have bottomed out and there are plenty of Volante's about. Main dealers now stocking more early models at sensible money with their own 12 mth warranty. Main issue with early DB9s is oil starvation if not kept topped up, which writes off engine, later fixed with a shorter dipstick.

Have always wanted an Aston but need usable rear seats, which is why my next car will be a Maserati and why I keep surfing this forum in the meantime!

Iain, I have not owned either but driven both. I am probably going to give a different view from most on here as its a Maserati forum.....I would take the Vantage....4.7 though as the 4.3.needs working to get the best out of it. I love both but the Vantage for me is still the best looking, best proportioned car on the road even after all these years.

They are both very different cars though as one in a GT and one very much a sports car. The Vanage is a point and squirt car that you take down your fav twisty road on a Sunday and smile. The GT car cover ground and continents in comfort and quickly and even though it hides its bulk well it's still a big car to hustle. Both sound amazing and both are lovely places to be. I prefer the interior of the Vantage as it cacoons you and wraps around you and with its shallow side windows feels very sporty and special.......but with only two seats is no where near as practice as the GT S.

As you can probably see I have a bit of a thong for the Vantage........

........I see you took my advice and shoved it up your ar5e! :D

Did wonder if they may he a tad hard.

In the Vanquish the lightweights are way more comfortable than the standards. My only criticism of my previous Vantage was the comfort of the standard seats and when I tried Lightweights I wish I had specified them (hence seeking out a Vanquish with them). But seats are a personal thing and it will also depend on one's frame so both need to be tried. Lightweights do command more at resale and are crazy money to retrofit.

Yes I see that the V12 vantage with these seats are more desirable. There is a 2009 Carbon Edition for sale on AT and they were standard on this edition yet who ever ordered new asked for standard seats. That's part of the appeal of the carbon edition.
