I've just got a Galaxy S4 to replace my S2. It's a very good phone, far more competent than I'll ever need. I'm now using EE as I am sick and tired of O2. My new contract has 4gig Internet, 3000 texts, 3000 minutes, free overseas texts and phone calls. £42pm. I love Apple products but I hate the Apple 'we will control your life' philosophy so I've moved onto pastures new.

Too limited a choice Dem, might I suggest that you expand your horizons a bit:

I will lay my cards on the table - I love Apple, not the technology but the fact it all works together. I have spent years with various bits of kit and only and have always had issues getting one thing to work with another. I moved to an iPhone some years ago but it was only when I went Mac for both desktop & laptop that it all made sense. Everything works together, I can easily manage what is on each device and everything I need is always with me.

IOS 7 is actually really good when you get used to it. So my view is simple iPhone all the way.

Son has opted for new HTC, just edges it in his humble opinion

+1 - had iphones and the function just hasn't moved on enough for me, still the same as when they started - besides everyone has an iphone. now have HTC which i think is lot better in functions and use (love the swip text writing - if only you could do that on a keyboard)

Just upgraded to the Note 3 from Galaxy S2.

Like having a computer in your pocket. Great for reading document attachments and making amendments on the hoof with the massive screen.
16GB internally but I've dropped in a 32GB SD card - lots of memory for next to no money. And swap batteries in and out if you use it lots and lots like I do.

Yes it's big so not for everyone but what a piece of kit. Love it.

Trev, the forums web developer hates Apple and loves Samsung. Even he admitted to me, an Apple fan that the S4 is not very good opting to stay with the S3. He's waiting for Samsung to have another go before upgrading.

Trev also keeps harping on about Nexus????? Says they are the ones to have.

For me, I'll stick with the iPhone does everything I need and still running a 4 as don't like the screen shape and lightness of the 5/5S/5C

Works with all my other Mac stuff seamlessly plus we have a top end Hifi that it plugs into and my car is hard wired so no way I am changing.

I admit a couple if years ago the iPhone was king and that has slipped a bit now but for me I would never go Samsumg as they are imitators and not innovators just like Korean and Chinese cars.

David has an HTC and I actually think that's a really nice phone. Also Motorola have some new offerings that are smart according to Trev. Before Apple I always used to but Motorola as I have always tried to be different, just like my cars.

That's just my personal opinion and have been through the dark times with Apple and no way I'll be deserting them anytime soon.

Going through the same decision at the moment, Dem. Bye bye Blackberry, hello iPhone or Samsung S4. Current preference is Apple because the Samsung does too much and is far too clever for me. Plus it's more pocket-sized than the Samsung.

Personally...I'd try them out in your hand before you buy...the HTC handles and feels much nicer than the Samsung

Great advice, thank you....from owning these phones, whats the battery like? I find my iphone rubbish, needs charging twice a day....dont use it that much

We are both on O2, i find them alright but internet 3g is **** and im tempted to go to EE, also i could end up buying the phone outright and using Virgin Mobiles sim only tariff that goves unlimited calls, unlimited txt and unlimited 3g for 15 pm....

Personally, I think we are splitting hairs between the Samsung and the HTC. I asked the manager in the phone shop which phone he thought was best as he is around them everyday and sells lots. He said Samsung and took his S4 out of his pocket. I took his recommendation as I reckoned he was as qualified as anyone i have spoken to to give one. If you like a phone and 'get on' with it you are going to recommend it. I liked the S2, so I upgraded to the S4. I didn't like the iPhone I once had so I wouldn't recommend one.

What do you want your phone to do beyond being a phone - there's loads of other gadgets out there that are far better at doing certain things. Most i-things want to try to use a hammer as a screwdriver - find the best tool for what you need to do and work from there.

Fair point Frank. However, I went in with the intention of upgrading to the S4, he merely confirmed it without being told what I wanted.
