Did you look at the Kia EV6? If not, you should.
No, we haven’t, but same car underneath also with a small boot? Supposed to be better to drive though?

We have a Hyundai fleet deal with good terms so was looking at the Hyundai to begin with :)

We also have Ford terms but can’t say the Mustang floats my boat much.

We are replacing a 2016 Volvo V40 so anything is going to be quite an upgrade :)

Did you try an E-Tron?
A colleague at work is just about to hand his Jag I-Pace back at the end of a 3 year deal and is replacing it with an E-Tron Q4, which is cheaper but more roomy. Just a thought.
Mine arrived the week before Christmas:

Thanks, My mum has one, had about 3 months, a 50 version, haven't actually tried it yet but to be honest not really a fan of the styling etc. Last Audi I had was the Ur Quattro and I've kind of fallen out of love with Audi a bit. My parents seem to love Audi, dad has an RS6 and mum replaced her A6 estate with the etron.

Feels a bit like I only support failing brands! (Alfa and Jag!)

I should take it for a quick spin though, mum chose it over the Hyundai because of the boot space :)

My Toyota Rally mates daughter was testing in Portugal yesterday.
Her Dad is Jonny Miller twice British Rally Champion.
Today SCC | Private Members got to do something very exceptional with Lotus Advanced Performance…

A trip to one of the best racing circuits on the planet and to drive Lotus’s all-electric 2,000+bhp/£2,000,000+ Hypercar called Evija!

The members that came are looking to purchase the Evija, but also got behind the wheel of Emira GT4 as well.

If you follow @sccprivatemembers on Instagram or on Facebook: SCC Team, you’ll see in the stories it took me almost 3 minutes to get into the GT4!

I saw Evija in 2020 for the very first time at Salon Privé and was totally blown away by its looks. Not once did I ever imagine driving it… Let alone on a Grand Prix Circuit in Portugal!

The car was dialled back to a mere 800bhp for me behind the wheel today. Much less than half of its total power output, but even with this restriction it still delivered ‘face peeling’ acceleration! I genuinely can’t even begin to imagine what 2,000+bhp feels like at full throttle!! Even the thought of that makes me feel a little nervous…

The car felt absolutely perfect in every way you’d want a Supercar to be, not once did I miss the engine sound or exhaust note, in fact it never even entered my mind when I was driving it. Which was one of the factors that actually surprised me the most!

If you take away the sound from any Super or Hypercar what do you want? Balance, steering feel, blistering performance, grip, brilliant handling, the wow factor?

The Evija had all of the above, but on steroids.

P.s. I’ll even admit the electric motor noises got a bit addictive in the end! I think the car isn’t to get rid of the combustion engine but instead to compliment it, park it next to your Bugatti with pride and celebrate the next generation of automotive excellence…

Wondered about the Evija, seemed to have gone a bit quite....

I've seen a bright yellow Eletre SUV locally, certainly stood out! looked pretty good really.

I was looking at one in Vegas at the start of the month. It's a very attractive car, but huuuuge!

if you're looking for a 5s to 60mph electric SUV it's a good time to be a buyer, the **** has fallen out of the EQC market

That kind of power in a petrol car is a lot more money

BMW bids farewell to electric cars, set to launch hydrogen engines by 2025.

Discuss.

I’d rather not. But just to be clear, there are lots of flavours (colours) of hydrogen, most of which emit plenty of CO2 in its production.

My read of the article is that BMW are introducing hydrogen power as well as BEVs so it’s more of a hedging exercise.

Rather importantly, when talking about fuel cells, they wear out and need replacement around twice as regularly as batteries and are also eye wateringly expensive.

Usual excellent piece by Harry Metcalfe;

Interesting. So Harry confirmed that if you’re having the vehicle as a company car (unlike him) and do a regular local mileage (unlike him), an EV is the best option. Whereas if you are using private money and do regular long distance towing (like him), a diesel car is cheaper. So he’s confirmed what we’ve all known all along - which is that there is not one rule for everyone. You need to pick the car that is right for you.

So while a diesel RR Sport is the best of the range for Harry, a proper Rangie P460e is better (and cheaper) for me. It’s not that either of us are more right or wrong than the other - we’re just picking the car that best suits our personal circumstances.

Good though that Harry berates the manufacturers of pointlessly big and powerful EVs. I couldn’t agree more. Who needs 900bhp in an SUV for general family duties? My wife and I are delighted that our new E-Tron is actually a bit smaller, less powerful, lighter and cheaper than our previous one. Its range and efficiency are better, meaning even lower running costs, which equates to more money going into the Khamsin fund. Hooray!

And great to see Harry call out the current internet hype/nonsense about LR insurance. Current Rangies are just about the least stolen car in the U.K. I can’t recall the exact stat, but it’s something like only 10 of the 18,000 new model Rangies sold so far have been stolen. So as with all stats, beware the headlines and check the small print.

So, a thumbs up for Harry’s Garage.
But I still think the episode he did on my blue Shamal was better!

Wow, last time I looked at one of these I nearly fell over, £75k new in Merc Chester, that’s some hit in 3 years!!!! And that’s retail, £20k trade, £55k loss in 3 years on a boggo family SUV.

You'd think that Fuel Cell technology would have reduced in price since the Apollo missions...they were , sadly, over 50 years ago...

Interested how they wear out...any good reading recommendations on this subject?
