LED daytime running lights on pre-facelift QP

Chaps,

Also posting this on the maseratilife site so apologies if you come across this twice.

Have been toying with the idea of installing LED daytime running lights on my pre-facelift QP Sport GT.

There seem to be 3 options as crudely mocked up by me below: 1) strip lights; 2) round lights; 3) do nothing

Would greatly appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Thanks

Shak

Good question indeed! Hence after opinions. I would only do this if it could be installed in an easily reversable way...

I think round if I have to choose, thought about changing the side lights on my 4200 into led but think it may be a little too much bling.
any comments?

Excuse my ignorance here... if the main headlights are xenon then I do not see why not and think that could look pretty cool.

Hi Shak, I think I'd have to agree with Enzo on this one. Round lights are a subtle addition without standing out as an obvious mod. I think you've mocked up the strips really well, but they're very much a fad that, although popular at the moment, will probably date very quickly.

Including votes from MaseratiLife I make that:

  • Option 1 - strip lights: 1 vote
  • Option 2 - round lights: 3 votes
  • Option 3 - do nothing: 6 votes

Thanks everyone!

Any more opinions or suggestions? :study:

Today alone I have seen a '95 corsa, a London cab, a transit van and shitron Saxo with aftermarket day time running led's.
I think that sums up perfectly the Market that they are aimed at. IMHO if they are not designed to be there and are not blended into the official design they look cheap.

On a different note, personally I feel that they are too bright and therefore become a distraction. So many times I've found myself unable to look away from the bloody things.
As mentioned above, I'll be surprised if they are still on new cars in 5 years time.

the new maserati qp will have them, i think thats what keeps maserati away from rivals like audi or merc in the luxery market, they never compete with technology, audi done it then porsche mercedes and ferrari have copied so its the way its going, i love the strip i would get that

Thanks again everyone for the feedback. I have decided to investigate further the idea of round lights with the custom installers who put the Kewood touchscreen system in my car. I think round lights will complement the more curved aesthetics of the pre-facelift QP. One thing for sure is out of my respect for the original design, anything I do will be easily/cheaply reversable.

There are two simple approaches i think. The first is to position the fog lights behind the two lower side grilles as show below in these pics I found on a custom wheel site:

Fog lights behind lower grilles 1.jpg Fog lights behind lower grilles 2.jpg

The second to install the following lights with about 1 cm of the front lens and outer case protruding from the lower side grilles. The curvature of these lights suit the shape of the pre-facelift QP very well I think. They are also small (only 2.8" wide) and discrete so as to (hopefully) add to the integrity of the overall design of the car instead of detracting from it.

As always, would appreciate any further thoughts. Many thanks.

Don't do it....running lights are tacky, look at me, add ons that serve no useful purpose. Leave well alone.

Just my (tactless) honest opinion, of course....... :))

I like those round ones Shak,
Looks in the 2 pics you have that they were made for the car...
they seem to follow the contour nicely.

Enzo.
