Heard that too, however it doesn't appear to be a report from the doctors at the hospital, just speculation by another doctor.

Hope he does recover...

Let's hope he does. Its not unknown, but in my experience head injuries of this nature do not lead to an outcome that many would want.

Precisely, no one except the doctors treating him will know why they have chosen to keep him in a coma.

I think I heard it was speculation by a doctor writing for the Mirror. Schuey's family have asked the media to stay away from the hospital so the Mirror are trying to find an angle to talk about it.

Sounds like it may as well be speculation from the man in the moon.

Hopefully the doctors in charge know what they are doing.

I don't recall if i ever mentioned it before but I suffered a trauatic brain injury after a 14 foot fall in June 2011.
I fractured my skull, died for about 20 seconds and "came back".
My doctors told me that I survived by having a tremendous amount of fight in me.
While it is true that my life has drastically changed, I'm still here!!

I 'm certainly not comparing my injury to Michaels injury!
I'm just saying...never underestimate the power of the minds ability to fight in all of us!
Being a world class competitor....we all know he's one helluva fighter!
Plus...he is used to winning! If an "ordinary" person like me can fight to survive,
just think how hard a highly competitive, successful, and extraordinary man like Michael will fight!!
I'm going to keep optimistic, hopeful, and send him all the positive thoughts I can!!

Well said John..!! Thankfully you seem to have healed quite well..!!
At the moment it's only opinions from here and there and it's best not to rely on guess work. Michael is a very fit professional sportsman and was equipped with head protection. He has taken a big blow to the head and as such will have considerable swelling and internal bleeding that the doctors are treating. To keep someone in an induced coma for a period after such damage is normal and gives the brain time to recover, swelling to go down and any bleeding to stop, this is essential for recovery and preferable to someone being in and out of sleep..!! I think we have to give a bit more time for all this to settle down, the doctors know what they are doing and in time Michael will be gradually brought back. There is no guarantee that he will be exactly the same, but he has a better chance of coming back than such as myself for example faced with the same accident..!!

We have a good friend who is one of the countries leading specialists on head traumas. His view is that it will take as long as it takes and that predicting the outcome even if he had all the information would be extremely difficult. Every head trauma is different as are the people that have them and therefore so is the outcome.

In his opinion, on what he knows, Schuey has a lot of plus points on his side, his fitness, his determination, a will to survive, some of the best care available etc. he would hope for a positive outcome but he would take nothing as certain.

Let's remain optimistic that for his family and the wider public he pulls through.

It frustrates me that there's so much speculation on this. Let the poor man get better (or do his best to do so!) in peace. The last thing his family need is poeple speculating, particularly when its negative.

I have my fingers crossed for him. I know many didnt like his approach, but ignoring all that, he's a human with a wife and kids. For them, I hope he gets better swiftly.

Look at Jame Cracknell. Super Fit Athlete and determined just like Schumi. He was riding his bike across the US and got hit at 60mph by a truck (wearing a helmet thankfully) and he was put into an induced coma for 3 weeks. He made pretty much a full recover which took the best part of a year and affected not just him but his family as he was indeed a different man after the whole accident. It shows that recovery from a head trauma is very possible and all the speculation is exactly that, speculation!

Let's hope and pray that he makes a recovery and can live a relatively normal life with his family and reflect over time how serious this was.

It's amazing what the human body can do to repair itself over time..!!

One of the most amazing survival stories comes from a friend of mine - Trevor Greene. He was a captain in the Canadian Forces in Afganistan.
One fateful day, he on a goodwill mission in a small town with the "elders" sitting in a circle. It would be considered rude if he left his helmet on so he removed it.
A short time later a 15-16 year old kid came at him from behind and buried an axe in his head - so much so that his brain was not only exposed, but bits were lost as well.
Needless to say his injury should have been fatal, but somehow he survived!! An amazing survival story of an amazing guy to be sure.
He is now living here in Nanaimo where he and his wife had another child!! He is still in a wheelchair and has a slight speaking impairment, but has every bit of his intelligence intact! The type of guy he is can be summed up with his thoughts on the kid that attacked him (and consequently shot dead by his squad right after the attack). Trevor deeply regrets that the kid was killed, stating that he was just a kid! Amazing man...amazing story! (here's link about him)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Greene

Like Robert said it truly is amazing what the human body can do!
It gives some real hope that Michael will pull through!!

Wow. Some story. Poor guy, but as you say an extraordinary story of brain elasticity and the ability to self-repair, even if not fully.
