I was encouraged right up until the last paragraph. Let's hope he isn't too far removed from his previous persona. Get well soon.

It will take some time to recover from this event and the induced coma, but the brain is amazing at bypassing damaged areas and compensating, the main thing for him and his family, he is alive and can look forward to further challenges..!!

The brain is remarkable at recovering, especially when you think it is little more than jellified fat! I remember them having all sorts of concerns over Richard Hammond when he had the high speed crash, saying it may change his personality; he is still a prat and working on Top Gear!

Just been trying to find some news this weekend of another GP and not much out there still in the Grenoble Hospital.
Wishing him all the best from my end.
Phil.

Now out of coma and released from hospital, it doesn't sound like a positive development :(

Trying to read up on this - v. slow tinternet today.

Sounds like he's out of the coma but still unconscious. I'm not sure what the difference is.

I wish him well though, would love to see him fight it and win.

He was in an induced coma, so can now breath unaided, but believe hes not truly responsive.....such a tragedy

Call me suspicious, but.... i wonder where the truth is: two days ago we were told that he won't recover, two days later he is not in an induced coma and sent somewhere else.

I suspect that it's been decided that there's no point in keeping him in hospital, which is where people go to get better. They have, possibly, sent them to a place where he will be cared for until he reaches the end of his life :(

I think you are right C, all the reports lately have been hinting along the lines of PVS (persistent Vegetative State) or at least pretty close to it as they have been saying occasional moments of consciousness. Medically they have probably done all they can now so why keep him in a hospital. On the plus side he was possibly one of the world's fittest people for his age physically so he should be able to fight of pneumonia and the likes for a good while. I like everyone hope and wish him a full recovery, in reality though I hope for at least a few coherent moments with his family.
