I took Doris to the local Alfa indie place, but too busy. Then I remembered a little garage I'd seen tucked away down a side alley in golders green, so I took her there. Its called Mario Italian Auto Repairs...a single archway under the northern line across the road from the station. Chatting with a young guy about what needed doing, when he said "hold on, I can hear my dad coming now, he'll help"...I listened but all I could hear was traffic noise until I managed to distinguish a buzzing roar (don't know how to describe it any other way) and up the alleyway came this...
It's a 120mph 6-speed racing beastie with a high revving motorbike engine and a million smiles per gallon.
And that's how I met Mario Davoli himself, when a wide grinning enthusiastic guy hopped out of her and came over to shake my hand. His son Michael and a nice guy called Fabio do the actual spanner-wielding these days, and they all love Italian cars.
2 hours work and £55 to replace the gaiter including parts, and when I asked if they had re-greased under the gaiter they said of course...both sides! Which was nice as they were only replacing one. They also topped up my radiator fluid and put in a missing bolt from the tunnel strengthener x-piece.
We had a tour of the underside of the car, and chatted about intake modifications for a while, then I had to go and get the pass certificate for my MOT.
A good way to spend an afternoon, and I'm sure I'll be over to see Mario for those small bits that I don't want to drive to Manchester for - sorry Marios!
