Does the 4200 have the Navtech installed???

The sat nav discs are Navtech, yes.

Its so flaky though.
My original 2002 discs won't work, well only 10% of the time.
I have a 2007 copy, that works showing the current position, but its 50/50 whether it lets you enter a destination, sometimes that option is greyed out for some reason.
The CD drive is also sensitive to different brands of CD-R!

Mine did, I had the original discs from 2004 so upgraded to the latest version. Not much better, I was hoping for post code functionality but unless I'm missing a trick it's not available, probably what winds me up more, is that it tells you to turn in 1/2 a mile when you're about 200yards from the turn, so you need to keep an eye on the screen!

To be honest, Copilot Live Premium HD on my iPad is superb.
Was on offer for £26 last year when I downloaded it, whole of europe, selectable to save memory.
Free traffic rerouting, free speed camera database.
Worked perfectly last trip through France a few weeks ago.

So the Maserato system is still rubbish then? Can TomTom software be installed in to the Maserati system and the Navtech taken out, it's only software, or it should be??

Dont know if it can Robert - well certainly not without a massive job. Having said that, think someone did it on MAserati Life but a massive and expensive job.

Depends how often yopu need Sat Nav. I use the inbuilt system on the Gransport as I don't need it all that often. If I did I'd use the Garmin I have in the Mito.

If the Maserati hardware can be re-formatted and new software applied, this should work? Any idea what the make of the hardware is: Blaupunkt, Becker, Radiomobile????

Correct dave , it was a guy called Buzz (elec tech ) on maserati life , he converted the unit to take tom tom software and so that dvd could be played on the same unit , at cost of around $2500 , he did it because he could but said that to do it on a commercial basis woulsd be cost prohibitive

I think the main stumbling block is all the pulse information for trip, air con, climate control and other on screen stuff all routes through the NIT unit so you either loose it or put up with the crummy performance as is. Maserati won't offer any help in decoding the information....

Perhaps in a few years when my lad is through uni I'lll give him this as a project!

Good idea Newton! If I finish up getting a 4200, I think I will try and investigate the software. Somewhere in the operating system must be a file for the Navtech, if I can get in and interogate that, I might just be able to wipe that file content and introduce a new section of software. Unless of course it has been write protected, but if you can introduce updates it should be workable?

Lady Stig has her 3200AC and now she won't let me light up a cigar in it, so I am going to get my own and a 4200 is a logical step, don't you think?

For those who use a Tom Tom, or iPhone or similar - do you mount it to the dash/windscreen. I just can't really bring myself to do that in a Mas, I don't think it looks right

I normally have my Road Angel in the bottom centre windscreen and the sat nav just above it, or you can put the sat nav in the bottom corner of the screen, driver side.
