For those who use a Tom Tom, or iPhone or similar - do you mount it to the dash/windscreen. I just can't really bring myself to do that in a Mas, I don't think it looks right

I use TomTom on my iPhone in the GTS when I can't be arsed to go through the performance that is selecting a destination.

No need for a mount, it just rests on the centre consul where it meets the dash.

Matt, does the iPhone GPS keep up with the location well enough, compared to an actual TomTom. I have TomTom, but the same application on my iPhone, or iPad may be an option?

Robert, i use Co Pilot on my iphone. Full European mapping and works a treat with the iphone GPS. (I have heard that the Tom Tom app is too sluggish using the iphone GPS and needs a dedicated GPS cradle?)

I haven't managed to find a decent spot for my phone in the 4200 Coupe and I am loathe to use a mount!

James, interesting mate, I had copilot on my old phone, but not this one. I have just looked at the Navtech site and they want £139.00 for the 2010/11 discs, which are basically 2 years out of date already. Anybody know if the navtech system actually updates itself at all, via GPS, or do you have to manually update with discs, which seems really outdated now?
Ross, won't double sided rubber suction cups work somewhere on the car dash, you can just take them off then?
Cheers

The sat nav runs off the CD disc for its mapping information, which must be in the CD drive,it does not install the updated mapping onto a hard disc drive, it is, after all, 10 years old technology.
There is apparently a separate CD available for updating the firmware. When I looked into this, it appeared that mine was running the latest firmware anyway.

You have to leave the CD in the drive to work the satnav, WOWEEEE, that's ancient then????
Do you know if the hardware has such as a USB port, or anything like that?

USB??? Got to be joking!
Not even a phono in jack....however you do have a CD multichanger socket, so a loudlink module can be plugged in to give you a phono jack/sd card to play mp3's through the units multichanger input, instead of a multichanger.

Just created a new thread, they do a Bluetooth version now!
So Bluetooth audio and car kit in one.

Mike, if that is the case, would it not read such as TomTom software through that if it were loaded on to a large SD card??

The Loudlink sounds a good idea!! Have you already had that fitted??

No, loudlink with the sd card just pushes the music to emulate a CD through the CD multichanger port.
Honestly, forget about changing the software to run TomTom.
If you search the US Maserati Life forums the only answer is to rip out the display and fit a new Kenwood screen with a few kenwood black boxes and then you can have virtually anything you want, DVD, TV etc.

Mike, that sounds pretty extreme and costly, I'll have a look at the Loudlink system.

Mike, just had a closer look at the Loudlink, if you have it, do you just get the black box, or do you get the mini screen too, it's a bit vague??

Just the black box, which replaces your CD multichanger if fitted in the boot, or plugs into the back of the armrest CD drive if not fitted or if you want the black box in the cabin instead of the boot.
Instead of then selecting CD's on the existing display, you select 'folders' on the SD card instead, or select the last CD on the display, that actually is then whatever is connected to the aux-in socket on the loudlink black box.
The loudlink therefore just emulates a CD, so no track info is displayed unfortunately.
So no 'mini screen'.
If you connected say an iPhone to the aux-in though, you have your iPhone screen to select tracks, or iPod etc.
Cheers.

I have one for major European roads, it's a few years old though, I could maybe try and burn you a copy if that's any good??

PM me for a link to another forum that has links to download the discs....it's complicated if you are not au fait with .rar or .iso file formats. You'll be not too surprised to see that the Navteq system was also used in Fiats, Lancias and Iveco Vans. Yep the bloke the Sun on the dash used the same satnav system as the bloke with the cufflinks!

Cheers Martin, that's a great help mate. In fact I will PM you as I seem to have lost my main Navigation Disc.
Keme, let me know by PM if you still need me to burn you a disc.

Cheers
