Which will be an oil change and check at 20k miles!

P

Yes that's the way it is with BMW etc.

Message is, of course, there is no way that Maserati can compete so it will always be a marginal player, as it should as Ghibli diesel materially reduces the value of the brand. Can't call Maserati an Aston Martin competitor when the smoking saloon rolls in.

Flippin' 'eck! Tough crowd!

If Maserati want to grow their unit sales, which they evidently do, and if they've chosen to do it with the new QP and the Ghibli, which they evidently have (and on which they've spent a great deal of money in development), then even though I don't like either of them I'm prepared to think that they've looked at the servicing requirements and costs in comparison to what they deem their competition to be.

Combine that with a good warranty and the hope that the build quality and reliability are robust, then they should have a chance to succeed within what are after all relatively modest growth expectations in the wider scheme of things.

Good luck to 'em.

Hi Rags, to be fair Maserati are looking to offer servicing deals in conjunction with the finance deals. They've done their homework and have looked very carefully over the fence at their German competitors and the deals they offer.

Time will tell. I actually don't like either the QP or the Ghibli, but I do think Maserati are about as close as they've ever been to actually formulating a growth plan that is achievable and on a par with what the Deutsche Wagons offer.

I wish them good look and will watch with some interest.

I truly hope they have and I also hope they succeed. I would like to see an upmarket competitor to the Germans emerging which has a bit more exclusivity and is priced at the thick end of buyer wallets.

Maserati at the moment are just in no mans land. Not premium priced enough to become a Ferrari or Bentley and not cheap enough to compete with Audi etc. They need to increase volume to become profitable and healthy and its a good decision by them (apologies if this sounds like blasphemy to some members on here!). But to do this its all in the implementation and parts and service costs are important. Key car for them is not the Ghibli or QP - its going to be the smaller sports car and the SUV. The SUV especially needs to sell in big numbers to get to their sales targets. Unfortunately most Chelsea tractor driving mummies don't really know much about the brand - it needs to catch on in the school car park stakes!!

I for one would rather have a a Gibbers with a derv engine than any BMW Audi or MB if I was after a £50k car to get about the UK. Sadly im not. I do think that there is plently of room for Maserati to filll and I hope the new range gets the chance.

I would prefer both your car and a 520d for £50k Peter but I suspect I am going a little off piste now.

They need to become the Italian version of Porsche!

To succeed in their plan.

So do I rags.

I think they've given a great deal of thought to how to compete with the Germans, and then rightly looked at what JaguarLandRover have done. The German producers are way too strong in terms of unit sales, but there's no denying JLR have cut a path that Maserati could easily follow. Tata have done a brilliant job and I think Fiat have them firmly in their sights.

As for the SUV, I suspect Fiat couldn't give a monkeys about Chelsea, more like Chelski and......... how the h£ll do you write Chelsea to make it sound Chinese? :D

Sorry Rags, I was replying to your post No.27, though your comment about Porsche is interesting. Porsche make great sports coupe's but are less successful with performance 4 seaters. Flip that coin?.............

Porsches biggest selling car is the SUV. That was released before they released the Panamera. Before the Panamera all they had was sports cars (two door coupes and convertibles) and the SUV.

The Panamera isnt a must win sell well segment for Porsche. I suspect that thats exactly what the QP will become for Maz with them relying on sports cars and SUV sales. I simply cannot see Maz getting to 50k sales through heavy reliance on the QP and Ghibli

Fair point. I wasn't including the SUV, as Maserati haven't made it yet, but certainly they'll want some of the Cayenne, but again they'll be looking at the Land/Range Rover dominance.

Emtee - I agree they will gun for the Cayenne and RR Sport type market with the SUV. RR proper car shouldn't be on their radar.

Maserati need to sort their marketing out! The Ghibli demo I saw was sat on 18" rims and had a bare-bones spec. My eyes kept wandering toward a high-spec GT with sports pack.

Just imagine if all car adverts on the telly showed the base model in its lowest spec and with the cheapest wheels!

Marketing 101...

We all know they are not brilliant at this and they rarely listen to anyone else, so if they get it wrong then so be it..!!
