New Pirelli P-Zero

I'm thinking of trying to find as near an equivalent as possible to the Pirelli PZero corsa soft compound tyres that the AC originally had. I have a spare set of alloys so I could put sensible tyres back on when required. They seem to be an awkward size though.

Any downside in having PSS at the back and PZero at the front...
Eb
There shouldn't be - as long as they match across the axles from a safety perspective you should be OK.

You won't get the full benefits of the change though just doing one axle. e.g. if the PSS grip more than the tyres you replace, then you may find the car is understeering more. Unlikely to be a major issue in normal road use though.

How much meat do the fronts have on them?

There's the rub - lots on the front. Have caved and gone fro PZero Rosso's again. I've been doing some digging into the treadwear value. Spoke to a nice lady in Pirelli who said that this is only quoted for the US market, although tyres actually have this on them over here. I spoke to one tyre place who had some in my size, ordered in for someone else who said that they had a treadwear of 160. I hope that the ones I get won't be like that!

I changed my rears recently from P Zeros to Michelin Pilot Supersports. Been very happy but I only take her out in the dry & don't do many miles. The Supersports seem to be the best dry tyre but not so good in the wet. Suits me fine.

Can also report I've driven in hard rain and not felt any compromise with PSS on the fronts at all

That's good because the PZeros are awful in heavy rain. My rears were at 3mm and at 80mph on the motorway with a flooded road surface I could feel the back end squirming. Scary!

I've had PSS on 3 different cars and the wet weather performance has been very, very good on all of them. And significantly better than PZeros which were truly awful on every measure compared to the Michelins.

I am pretty sure I will never fit Pirellis to another car of mine.

I have Pirelli P Zero Rossos on mine. Dry weather they are good, but cold and in the wet not great to be honest.

P Zero Rosso on my GTS and in the dry they grip well, Brunty proved this, in the wet they are like Marbles which to be fair suits me as I am captain oversteer.

I'm very much in the hate Pirellis tyres I have always found them to wear fast and only grip in the dry as soon as it rains you are heading for the ditch. I will never use them again

Have P Zero Rosso on my QP, and have never struggled in the wet.

Last year I had to slow down A LOT on a motorway to allow Miles to keep up in torrential rain in his GTS, as he was really struggling to keep it in a straight line. No idea what tyres were on it.

So a pair new PZero Rosso's on the rear. Old ones were down to 0.4mm usable..... However new ones have 160 tread wear compared to previous which were 180 and the fronts which are 220. Should get around 5-6K out of these without Llandow in Oct... I suspect I might need another set before Christmas

Michellins PSS on mine. I drive in all weathers and found them better than my Pirellis. However not a fair comparison as the Pirellis were worn.

But no problems in the wet at all.

My next set will be a set of Conti Sport Contact 5P. The rears seem easy enough to source but the fronts seem a bit harder. Does anyone know of a good price for the fronts?

Sorry, cant help with price and although I've not tried them yet, I'm personally thinking of going for contit sport contact 6 when I change the rears. The 5's won evo's tyre test last year and they then released the 5P and now the 6. I'm still not sure about how they wear or what the wear rating is, but perhaps you guys who have fitted the contis know?

I think the evo tyre review for this year is due soon, be good to see how the conti sc 6's do as well as the new p zeros

Just found the latest evo tyre test results
http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2016-EVO-Summer-Performance-Tyre-Test.htm
It's a very different car but good to see the comparisons. I'll have to pick up a copy of the latest issue to see a bit more about the road part of the test.

I find it hilarious they think the PZero is "best for wet roads"... I have experience of the complete opposite! Though I have noticed some minor changes between the new ones I've just had put on and the 2 year old ones on the front.
