the 3200 is the purest choice for lots of reasons but the potential problems put me off. The GS just ttys to hard and I have always hated those side skirts so for me it had to be a 4200.

I balance my heart wanting a 3200 and my head saying get a 4200 by getting the Spyder - a compromise maybe but one **** of a ragtop

Mines fine also, but does need a firm hand!

It's a "rock crusher" of a gearbox after all...all that huge torque and they still never give any trouble

A glug of ZX1 Extralube makes the gearchange more user friendly when cold

Yep a little "notchy" when cold but once warm just feels right. The Auto box is good at is geared very well especially in Sport mode where it's changes gear much higher up the rev range but the manual makes the 3200 a proper ASBO machine. Drop the clutch from a junction in first at 4k rpm and it is a dab of oppo time! Does anyone else drive theirs like they've stolen it?

I had heard reports of the gearbox being challenging, but mine's great. You need to be positive with it, but that's part of the fun of driving a car like this

I've enjoyed every Maserati I've owned, but there seems to be something extra special about the 3200. Perhaps its slightly challenging driving characteristics. Certainly the looks - for me the prettiest of 3200/4200/GS collection, although I consider them all lovely. Maybe the reputation of being a handful and unreliable makes owning one that bit more rewarding.

I guess there may be significant challenges to running one as a daily driver, but as an event car in which every drive is special and has that hint of uncertainty and even a little danger, I'm hooked.

For me the car is so quirky that's half of the charm. If it ran flawlessly it would be boring and like most "modern cars" but it doesn't and that is part of the fun keeping it limping along. Sort of like a wounded dumped girlfriend, you know you should steer well clear but it's a great ride and you just want more! :D

I wouldn't want to use it as a daily for fear of that event driving becoming less of a novelty but everytime I get in mine it is an occasion.
